Future Project (Ep 2) Funding Plan

The aim of this post is to better inform current and future Patrons of my plans for future content for the Falcomaster series.

Projects are large time commitments, so I am incredibly careful when deciding what to take on next. This ensures that the projects see the light of day, and are never scrapped due to poor-planning.

Pilot's Purpose

The main purpose of the pilot episode (that just came out) was to find out exactly what it would take to write, program, animate, and produce a full 30-minute episode of a Falcomaster series. It took me 11 months (full/over-time hours, I've been keeping track), a couple hundred dollars, and plenty of help from collaborators (voice actors, musicians).

Another goal was to see if people would be interested in such a wonky genre/topic. People do want another episode, and delivering it timely is important for a coherent story-arc. There is definitely interest, but it is too early to tell if it'll be enough to support the long-term security of my work.

Gildedguy Stories

I am grateful for all my patrons, as they enable me to pursue projects with creative freedom (which is crucial for quality content). Though, I reckon that a majority of you wanted to see more stories set in the world Gildedguy lives in.

I do too, and I'm eager to jump right back into doing another music animation featuring him!

So on one hand, we all want to see more Gildedguy, but on the other hand, there's desire for FM3K, which is more time-bound, due to its serialized nature (episodic).

I wish I could do both at the same time, but my project lead skills are not there yet.

The Plan

I've set up a milestone goal of $850/mo to be reached before 2019 to fund Episode 2 of Falcomaster. An increase of support in such an amount of time means there is serious interest in the series.

If the milestone is reached, we'll run a Patron-poll to gauge interest for FM3K vs Gildedguy stories. At this point, I'll have a good sense of what to prioritize.
If the milestone is not reached before 2019, FM3K will take a backseat to my usual content (unless something really changes my mind).

In the meantime (rest of 2018), I will stream and work on Gildedguy Story #5. I may have other freelance obligations, but I am trying to decline as many opportunities unrelated to the plan.

I hope this is reasonable. I want to hear your thoughts.

The Work Done for Episode 2

Already finished tasks that will speed up production for Ep 2:

Essentially, all that's needed is to draw/animate assets, score, and record lines. I estimate Episode 2 would take half the time to make (5-6 months).

Conclusion

I put a lot of thought into this because I want you all to be well-updated on what I've got cookin'.

I try to keep "art magic" behind the scenes to avoid spoiling the final experience, but when it comes to project line-up, you guys should be informed!

Thank you for reading this lengthy post.

Comments

If we reach the funding milestone by the end of the year, episode 2 will become a priority.

So does Falcomaster will have a episode 2 finally ?

Cool series!

It's a pretty good plan I think so
