You can technically skip 0 since it takes place between 22 and 23, but it’s so crazy and intense I think it’s worth reacting. It shows another side of Okabe without spoiling

Seth

It's dark but yeah not hard to imagine someone in Okabe's situation having those thoughts spring to mind

Alex G

In all this effort to save Mayuri, it's been fascinating to watch their relationship become increasingly weird and stilted while the relationship between Okabe and Kurisu gets deeper and more honest

Alex G

After some consideration I decided to default to watching the original series in the order it was released. I'm going to post something today or tomorrow to get some feedback about 0 just because, having not finished the show I don't know what it is yet really haha

Alex G

Why would watching the show in order ruin the ending? You’re literally watching it in order. There’s literally no downside to it, and no benefit to watching it out of order. I’m not arguing about this anymore it’s weird you care so much

Seth

Also regarding Mayuuris character in zero I respectfully disagree but wont comment why as too avoid spoilers.

M2GZ

Well I've seen both shows as well and my point was that because of my disappointment with steins gate zero I'm glad I NEVER watched it in chronological order to begin with as it would've retracted from my enjoyment of the original ending. Obviously my 99% comment was arbitrary although I wouldn't really be surprised if that's accurate considering the og steins gate was very popular when it came out and most people watched it with the original ending until zero came out 7 years later. Most people only follow that order for rematches. Also I'm far from butthurt I've made it pretty clear your perfectly entitled to your own opinion and thats fine I'm just stating that you are capable of articulating that opinion without relying on insulting others and calling them kids.

M2GZ

“99 percent” you made that number up to justify your point. It doesn’t matter what’s popular, obviously more people watch it in release order. I watched it all twice and always wished I saw it in chronological order. It would be so much more thrilling and if your referring to Mayuri’s character being different towards the end, I think she was always like that. Also “kids” wasn’t an insult idk why you’re so butthurt lmao

Seth

1) They for sure do act in ways that I feel completely misunderstands there original characters however I cant say why without spoiling, 2) the correct order is indeed the og show then the ova then steins gate 0 you are the one that's advocating to watch it out of order from how the show originally released years ago and how 99% of people who have seen the show has watched it. 3) Idk why you feel the need to call people children just because they are capable of having a different opinion from yourself? I think its rather obvious whos acting like a kid.

M2GZ

Bro there was barely any fan service they all acted exactly the same. Not sure why everyone wants it to be watched out of order. It spoils the ending and destroys the suspense. Idk why so many kids feel like they have to watch everything in release order

Seth

You’re free to have your opinion for sure and I do feel like maybe my comments make me seem like I hate zero more than I do. I rlly don’t hate it for me it’s just a 6/10 sequel to a almost 10/10 anime. As for expanding the characters I personally don’t think that’s the case as I thought a lot of the characters acted in ways they never would’ve in the original for what felt like fan service a lot of the time.

M2GZ

I honestly don’t think it ruined the characters. It expanded upon them and it all made sense to me

Seth

True, I forgot to mention that it's Suzuhas route, still a good display of the madness of timetravel though, thanks for the correction

Nioavellir

Mayurii and Okabes relationship is definitely my favorite in the series it feels so real in a way I cant explain.

M2GZ

Well while watching zero I thought multiple times if I had watched this straight from steins gate it would have actively retracted from my enjoyment of the original ending so I definitely hope he at least takes a break in between the two. I just feel like the concept they went with for steins gate zero did not make sense for the characters or the themes of the original show I wont get more into it until further reactions as too not spoil but considering its 24 episodes long and it is its own contained thing that came out years after the original steins gate I think its fair for it to be put on a poll like any other show.

M2GZ

I think the biggest reason I love this show so much is how much I connect with the characters. I've talked before about this, but this episode particularly shows just how human each of our cast is. They all make decisions that can sometimes be frustrating, but totally understandable given the circumstances. Even as you pointed out with Mayuri, the way she spoke to Okabe in spite of how she was truly feeling is emblematic of lots of relationships.

Oak

More VN Spoilers (endings) kinda If it was real he would consider letting it go and moving on. This is what the other endings are pretty much, Okabe is unable to sacrifice X persons dmail for the uncertainty of ultimately being able to save Mayuri, and continues living in that timeline, of course this means Mayuri always dies.

Nioavellir

If we are talking about that visual novel moment it needs more context. This is an alternate ending in the game. This ending is after Suzuha kills herself I believe. Okabe is tired and goes back and decided to repeat the same day forever in a loop. After maybe hundreds of times repeating the same day he goes a bit mad. In this he does think about Suzuha that way. That he could just rape her and no one will know. That it wouldn't even matter. And yeah it's dark and I think he is just desperate for anything different but considering how long it takes in this ending I can see how he got that bad.

Sage

I don’t see why we need a poll just leave it up to him whether or not he wants to watch it. 0 is crazier than the first part, it would be tragic if he ended the reaction like that

Seth

Yes if he were to watch steins gate zero then then the order would be episode 23b and then steins gate zero ONLY AFTER he's watched the entirety of the original series including the prologue OVA. After the OVA Id personally leave it up to a poll to see if people even want to see zero.

M2GZ

I think 0 was even better than the first part in some ways, definitely crazier. Just my personal opinion, 0 would be confusing if he at least didn’t watch 23b first

Seth

Trigger warning; sexual assault As mentioned in an earlier comment, the visual novel goes deeper into how much the repeated timetravel affects Okabe, at one point he is so broken he has thoughts about raping Suzuha, because just as you say, nothing matters and with time travel it never happened to begin with and you can repeat it to ad infinitum, social definitions of morality generally rely on there being a victim, but you can simple remove the victim because it never happened in the first place. Ultimately nothing like this happens and Okabe manages to stray from a dark path, but the man was irreversibly close to completely breaking, giving up and surrendering to primal urges. Whilst this part is very dark and the anime understandably removed it, I feel it adds a lot of realism to Okabe's character and the effects of timetravel as a whole.

Nioavellir

yah I definitely wouldn't say steins gate zero isn't worth a watch but if I'm watching for the first time I'd probably take a break between SG and SG-0, so I can fully digest the ending and sit on it before diving into SG 0 faults and all. I think if I watched it all as one package it may taint the way I see the show as a whole because in my eyes the og show is a complete package. its in my top 10 for sure.

M2GZ

This is a watch order meant ONLY for rewatches. I love SG 0 but for a first watch through release order is a much easier experience. It's kinda like the Hobbit movies. Never would I tell someone to watch them before Lord of the Rings, but despite their shortcomings, they are still an enjoyable watch afterwards.

Oak

its the most enjoyable way to rewatch it but definitely not the best way to watch it first time

M2GZ

If I'm being completely honest I may be in the minority with this opinion but I was kinda disappointed with steins gate zero. Not only did I think it failed as a sequel to the original series but I feel like it slightly detracted from the original. I don't know if the blame lies with the switching of the teams between the original vn and zero or the anime production but for me it came of very fanservicy and and seemed to not understand its characters as well as the original series. I didn't hate it, I thought some episodes were far better than others but considering how much I loved the original series I was definitely a bit more than disappointed when zero came out. I cant really give my proper criticism because I cant really even discuss the concept behind zero without spoiling so ill wait till he's done the main story to better explain why. Definitely suggest finishing up steins gate as is though and enjoying that as the full package and then maybe doing a poll to see if people want to see zero.

M2GZ

But then you’d kinda be ruining the ending since steinsgate0 takes place between 22 and 23. I watched the series twice and I think it’s the most enjoyable way to watch it

Seth

nonono would highly suggest finishing steins gate and enjoying what the original series is as a complete package first, then if people want he can watch steins gate 0 starting with episode 23b. That's how most people who watched the show originally saw it anyways.

M2GZ

Okabe really put Mayuri's mental well being on himself since he was a child with this mad scientist persona. I think it's hard to leave that safty of it with her because it worked. Mayuri was happier. But now their both older, and many circumstances changed, and this is no longer what they need. But I still think it's hard to leave something that felt safe for so long even if it's fraying at the seams.

Sage

As a heads up, the chronological order is episode 1-22, then 23b, then steinsgate0 1-24, then 23-24 of the first season. The last episode is 25 which is a special episode of the first season. I just rewatched it and that order is the easiest to follow along
