This one gets me every time with his Kyouma speech and Mayuri telling him he can cry now. I think I've seen this show 9 times now that's the one scene that still get's me teary eyed and feels like a big relief.

Aaaalright, so.. 1. The way Kurisu talks at 16:00 onwards, it supports my earlier theory that is actually is a multiverse and the timelines exist simultaneously. She talks about what happens when this Okabe leaves this worldline. So I don't know how other commenters contradicted it. 2. That place out of time she's referring to and the "if you keep me on your mind I will exist everywhere/when" is almost 100% Plato's theory of forms, and the fact that we see the desolate dreamscape we saw in an earlier episode further supports my saying this exact thing at that point. 3. This is my personal opinion but Okabe has been more his true self with Mayuri than Kurisu. The Okabe-Kurisu relationship felt to me more cliche / by-the-numbers anime relationship and that's why I disliked it, because it seems impossible in the real world. But I respect waifuanons' differing opinions. 4. And now for something really important. Somehow they seem to be focusing on "I love you but I have to save Mayuri because..." because what? Because he's been trying to save her longer? Is that the deciding factor? Sunk cost fallacy? They want to focus on the romance and drama, but it's not about that. It's all about preventing dystopia. And I'll explain: Does the show expect Okabe and the viewer to decide on which human person is more valuable to them??? "I love X more so I'll sacrifice Y". Ridiculous. One life shouldn't be more or less valuable than another. We've already killed Feyris' father, Ruka's comfort, and Moeka's probably also in some dark abyss, not saved. There was very little discomfort when we destroyed these things because it was for the good of the world, oh, but now, Kurisu's "different" because she's cute and close to us and we value her more, and we conveniently put dystopia aside and move the goalposts. I'm a bit frustrated, as you can tell, but only because I'm really into the show. Okabe's already a killer. He can go with "Kurisu or dystopia". He can even go "I should not have disturbed time, I am not God, I will revert everything back even if it's bad for me." "Kurisu or Mayrui" is the worst dilemma in my humble opinion.

Quick mini essay I want to write about how I interpret Okabe’s persona: When discussing how much of his mad scientist vibe is Okabe, I think the answer is quite complicated. I do believe that his mad scientist is a genuine showing of care, empathy, and expression from Okabe, the times he breaks out into the persona are often heartwarming moments. But the reason for doing it, and the likely gnawing urge that he *has* to seems to stifle it, like when a genuinely nice person ends up people pleasing. Strangely, I think Mayuri gave Okabe the space to do that for his sake. It likely wouldn’t have helped to throw it back into his face, plus she can always see his true intentions and help him a different way. In my mind, the potential numbness and apathy that Okabe might’ve faced in the future and that he already developed was like a more extreme version of that. Him trying to save Mayuri is a genuine show of compassion and care, something that is a good thing in it of itself within his life. But he loses himself to the point Mayuri can’t even read him, and this scares her. Do bear in mind that, while it seems like a while for Okabe, Mayuri is only seeing Okabe like this for a few days at a time. I interpret what the story is trying to tell as “its a good thing you care so much and are willing to die on this hill for the people you care about, so take that care and energy and keep living.”

I'm here for it! The trailer looks good so here's hoping they do it justice

Still early to say but I think this is my favorite episode so far as well. I feel like I HAVE to watch it one way or another 😂

This is my favorite episode, okabe's speech in the end is tragic and the voice acting in both versions is phenomenal. Unrelated but will you be watching the avatar netlfix series if it pans out well?

The empathy is an important part of his character, I just think there are better, more honest ways to express it. It almost seems like a buffer from the empathy, or an affect to avoid full vulnerability. I think that's why as time passes and the stakes rise, the people around him tolerate it less and less.

On the topic of Okabe’s mad scientist schtick, I’d argue it’s an important part of his personality, much more than something to push aside. While Okabe has shown himself being empathic without it, it's also a way for him to show empathy. Everyone he spends any amount of time with knows it’s not something serious, and they all immediately recognize when he’s being sincere, an example being when he was supportive of Kurisu during their conversation at the park ages ago. Or after the date with Ruka went so horribly that he ran back afterwards in his lab coat and it instantly felt more genuine. It also began as an attempt to comfort and support Mayuri. Eventually it just became a part of his personality. Anyway, my point is basically that I think that side of Okabe is just as important as any other. Also, your talk about romances at the start gave me a much better understanding of your ChrolloxNeon thing lol.

One thing I find kinda intresting in this anime is the fact the conflict is Mayuri and Okabe is doing this to save her, while we also have a dystopian future by Sern to think about. Like at no point did Kurisu point out they had to sacrifice her for a better future. But it was purely about Mayuri. It feels more human that way.

Whew 😅
