Usually if a show killed off a major character like this off screen, it'd be so unsatisfying. I don't think I have the vocabulary to express why it works here!

I especially love Gon's speech about how Kite wouldn't let himself be defeated, complete with the golden glow and him being "light," just to head back to Kites situation.

2024-04-18 07:10:55 +0000 UTCDecapitation jokes aside, I really like how ballsy this episode is - not only killing off the most powerful hunter we know of right now, but also doing it instantly and off screen! Other shows would have done a 3 episode fight where Kite would constantly be going "omg she's soooo strong!" and yet she can't finish him off quickly. This show is like, nope she's WAY OP he's dead instantly. Good way to make the villains terrifying!

I sure hope Kite is a Head Hunter, cause he could really use one right about now! This episode really cut off this neck of the journey! You gotta hand it to Neferpitou, she had flawless execution! I mean, she really butchered her entrance! Her showing up really disarmed Kite! What's she gonna do with Kite now that he's a no-body? Cmon Kite, that's no way to get a-head in life! *badum tss*

Your idea of bringing all the big name hunters and even more forces is the right and logical idea, squash the bugs before end. However, you noted that it is Netero we are dealing with, and he is more interested in fun and challenge than efficiency.

I get Netero's reasoning but still think personally that you have to send everyone, immediately, in overwhelming numbers and force, because either way this looks like the last shot at getting any kind of grip on the situation

2024-04-18 01:47:37 +0000 UTCThey really give us hope just to tear it away at the last second. And shame on that person who joked about Kite having a lot on his shoulders last episode lol. The best part is how abrupt the whole thing is. One minute we’re approaching the ant base and the next we’ve left the NGL entirely. So now’s a decent time to talk about some manga stuff. By now we’re past the point where the anime had to change some details due to Kite not appearing in episode one. That whole talk in the woods before Pitou shows up is basically rectifying this. In the manga, Kite gives Gon Ging’s Hunter License when they first meet on whale island. Kite is also the one who tells Gon about Ging in the first place, and is the entire reason he started his journey. Since they had to change some details here, this is never brought up in the anime, but it’s good to know as it helps further explain Gon’s attachment to Kite. Also, to comment on the idea of just sending everyone in to deal with the problem, Netero kinda says it, but sending people that aren’t strong enough would be a very bad idea. Two main reasons being: they are killed and fed to the queen, strengthening the ants, or worse, they do what they did to Pokkle and get a load of information out of them first. So Netero giving them a side quest not only makes sure they are stronger if they return, but is also a very Netero way of doing things. Alright, finally got my long comment of the month out of the way.
