In the meantime their goal is to weaken the chimera ant Army stealthily and meticulously. Even a soilder ant could wipe out an entire village and the squadron leaders are even stronger so they are prioritizing helping NGL’s citizens from Terrorism because they cannot help themselves. They know the chimera ants are waiting for the King to be born to make any substantial moves beyond NGL. If they go into the ant colony recklessly they would all die.

If it's true that they can't face Pitou and the others together, so instead they have to draw them out by getting rid of some of the forces first, then surely they could get more people to deal with the underlings more quickly from a safe distance, knowing that the Royal Guard won't get far from the castle. Anyway, Netero's line at the end that they translated as something like "I hope things go that way" is maybe a bit overly optimistic of a translation. It's more like "well, it'd be nice if things went like that, but yeah..."
