That is as incredible as it is insane. I love it, but thankful I wasn't the translator assigned to the project. Also my respect for Knuckle went up even more

One of my favorite things about Nen is the insight it gives us into a character's personality. Knuckle's ability gives us a lot of information that viewers would be able to pick up on even if we knew nothing about him, with a couple examples being: a. it seeks to disarm the opponent rather than kill them b. the opponent is able to return interest, ensuring that the better fighter will win (which contrasts with abilities like Illumi and Shalnark's which seek to control others) Just from those two characteristics alone we can tell that Knuckle is compassionate and merciful (not wanting to kill others) and is also honor driven and generally prefers to defeat his opponents by landing more punches rather than entirely relying on deception.

At 5:30, If I had the job of giving subtitles to this, I'd just flip the table at this point, haha. I'm going to sound like Knuckle explaining his own ability here, so no worries if you feel like Gon and it just all converts to steam from brain overheating, but I'll try my best. Okay... so, depending on how you look at it, either the most amazing or the most terrifyingly frustrating thing about Japanese writing is that writers have the ability to use the meaning and pronunciation of characters separately, with some degree of creative freedom. Togashi takes this to a rather absurd level multiple times, including here for Knuckle's ability. He writes it 天上天知唯我独損, which itself is already a really corny pun. The phrase it's playing on is 天上天地唯我独尊, tenjoutenchi-yuigadokuson, which means unbridled narcissism, or literally that the only thing from above the heavens to the earth below that I respect is myself. But then Togashi changes the 4th and 8th characters to different ones that are pronounced the same way for effect. The 4th changes it into "greater than heavenly knowledge," and the last change, the new "son" in yuigadoku-*son* (損) means to suffer a loss. In other words, "you will suffer a loss of greater magnitude than even heaven could know [+punny business]." But he's not done. Then he decides to pronounce that whole thing as "hakoware," which literally just means "box smashing", but it's the word for the Japanese cultural equivalent of breaking open the piggy bank, so this hugely elaborate pun is named after a children's word for running out of money. ...I swear this is a learnable language and people really would enjoy speaking it, haha.

That's definitely up there in schoolyard fantasy fights, but I mean, we had ants popping up and knowing how to use Nen and create clothes, so it's actually less ridiculous.

Arakis

Knuckle said it at beginning of fight, the interval was every 10 seconds. Also Killua did use electric yoyo's already, greed island on Genthru's buddy.

lmao all i could think about was naruto storm ults or trying to get an execution in for honor lmao

Goldy

Knuckle being the GOAT that he is teaching Gon not only about fighting but managing his finances as well

Haha finally a power that plays to my strengths. I think I already have an answer to a popular Q&A question...

I don't know how many learned about compound interest from HxH, but I will say you're probably the only reactor that understood what Knuckle was saying in one go LOL

Sunny

Honestly, that’s the terrible aspect of training yourself out of a bad mentality. Something can be useful, but can also have other unpleasant emotions tied to it. It’s likely very difficult for Killua to train himself out of it without completely rejecting the good parts.

It really is from a place of love, Bisky is a big softie too. A brutal softie.

About your final point I think that's the gamble Bisky seems to have made, probably largely due to the time crunch. Seems like it will either result in a breakthrough or a total meltdown

We’ve finally been introduced to my favorite ability in the show, by FAR. Knuckle’s APR is such a creative idea for a Nen power, it genuinely makes me wonder how or why Togashi came up with it. Similarly, I’d love to know Knuckle’s personal reason for developing such a power. You joked about Knuckle being the most dangerous man in the universe, but I genuinely believe if used correctly, it’s one of the strongest abilities in HxH, which seems fitting given the whole debt thing. And poor Killua. He’s been going through it recently. I love that you’ve pointed out the positive aspects of his habits. It’s just that in Killua’s case he’s been forced into these habits, making them feel like a purely negative thing. Of course like most cases, there’s a balance to be found. You also brought up the idea of the fear of not facing something becoming the greater fear. Having personally dealt with this, I’ve found it can often have one of two effects. One: it ends up giving you the strength to push through whatever situation you’re in, or two: it causes you to spiral even further, as you end up in a state where you can be too terrified to do anything at all. I’ve also experienced both, and I think the result can very much depend on both the person and the situation.

I love this episode so much because this was the episode where I realized Nen could truly be anything. That the creativity with Nen can be literally limitless so long as you make the proper conditions.
