2024-06-02 16:17:28 +0000 UTCIt took me a while to get the reference in the description, but yeah that's great. :) Two quick things: 1) Komugi's accent is a sort of stereotypical 'backwater Northerner' accent, which very sadly only one other person in HxH has had so far, and that was Pike (the spider who was killed by the vacuum). It's a little unfortunate that it's associated with dunce-like characteristics, but Komugi is a great character. 2) The episode title is a little different. It's "tsumi x & x yomi." Tsumi on its own means checkmate. You can hear the King say it several times this episode, and he'll continue to use that metaphor. The "yomi" part is meant to be a pun. On the one hand, it means reading as in figuring out opponents and how their strategy works so the king can best them. But it's also the word for reading out the plays (at 3:10) so that Komugi can visualize the moves. So, the King is reading her, but he's also reading it out *for* her.

It feels like we’ve barely seen the King since his introduction, but watching him try to understand the philosophy of games is something I never would have expected. I haven’t seen March Comes in Like a Lion, but I might have to now lol. It also makes me wish Gungi was a real game, though I’m sure there are fan made sets of gungi pieces out there. I know someone made all the Greed Island cards, so surely it exists.
