2024-06-07 05:00:40 +0000 UTCI have no idea what else it could possibly mean aside from Deku's air finger technique 👀 (Maybe it's spillover from an alternative reality where Boku no Pico won that one Patreon poll)

2024-06-07 04:39:28 +0000 UTCDeku "Fingerblasting Aoyama's mom" sounds like a completely different show haha. Caught me off guard with that comment

2024-06-07 04:27:58 +0000 UTCIt's so funny to me that this reveal totally blindsided me, not because the signs weren't there (I think he's actually done a great job, coz there are things you can pick up on, but Aoyama is an eccentric character, so it all could have been nothing also), but because this storyline took so long to come back. To be honest, at this point, I had totally convinced myself that there never was a traitor to begin with, and AfO had just aquired the information with one of his many undisclosed quirks and was playing mindgames with the heroes all along. I even fell for the Invisible Girl red herring (I think that was the end of a chapter, AfO bragging about his many friends, pan to IG in her bedroom), and I actually believed it, because she has always been the least developed classmate, so making her the traitor would finally give her something. Like, I could totally see a scenario where she felt unseen and wanted to get rid of her quirk and AfO capitalized on that. But yeah, this is better. To be honest, I don't even consider Aoyama a traitor, in my opinion that word implies malicious intent. All he did was leak some information under duress. I totally blame his parents for putting him in that position. But yeah, this is another example for one reveal recontextualizing everything when you go back and read it again, pretty amazing!

2024-06-05 12:43:10 +0000 UTCIt is kind of strange how he's the only non human with a quirk we've ever seen. Like how did he get the quirk?

2024-06-05 06:33:37 +0000 UTCalso, the heartbreak that Deku must've felt when danger sense went off when Aoyama fired to actively hurt him (it didnt go off in s6 deku vs the class at all, and in sparring with bakugo it didnt either).

2024-06-05 06:17:44 +0000 UTCwhat a great episode! i think MHA at its best is with callbacks and recontextualisation, my fave in this ep is that 1 shot of Aoyama's family reacting to the AFO Allmight fight back in season 3. back then it was just cut in with everyone cheering on allmight, but now we know they hoped AFO fell to give them a chance at normalcy. this season's pacing has been so good (theres a new series director and i think the production is pretty healthy so ive got really good hopes for the future!).

2024-06-05 06:13:24 +0000 UTCI'm pretty sure it's Season 4 episode 17 though heads up the first half of the episode is the climax of the super rugrats babysitting arc so it's only the latter half that focuses on the cheese escapade

2024-06-05 05:24:06 +0000 UTCDo you happen to know off hand what episode that was?

2024-06-05 05:09:29 +0000 UTCFinal episode , everything is resolved, the villains are beat... Goodwin: I'm not sure. Nezu could still be the traitor. I'll wait for the sequel series.

2024-06-05 04:39:58 +0000 UTCInterestingly, his mom comes off less sympathetic in the dub here. In the sub, she seems mostly scared and trying to protect him .

2024-06-05 04:30:33 +0000 UTCI may have been lying about Aoyama’s great hunt for cheese. You talked a lot about change, and not being viewed as a static, unchanging idea in someone’s mind. The thing about change is that wanting it is not enough. The problem is that actually following through on a desire to change can be just as difficult. The difference is that wanting change is not always something that can be done on its own, it sometimes takes an outside source to challenge your current thinking. Following through on that desire though, requires your own effort more than anything else. It’s hard for me to discuss this topic without bringing up Thorfinn. In his case, unlike Aoyama he had no desire to change until much later, or at least wasn’t willing to instead of achieving his current goal. In turn however, this made his later desire to change be all the stronger, but even he struggled with living up to the lofty ideals he set for himself. Much like Thorfinn, Aoyama has never really known a life outside of what he’s been living so far. Aoyama has also been surrounded by people living up to the ideal that he wishes he could follow. It’s easy to attain a low sense of self worth when you watch everyone around you achieve great things. So even though he has always wanted to be like those around him, being around them made him nearly rule out the possibility, thinking like, “How could I possibly be a hero while going behind their backs?”. Sometimes, when you’re in a state of mind like that, it takes someone like Deku to restart the engine.

2024-06-05 04:11:04 +0000 UTCwhile i’m sure ppl mentioned other traitor theories that were going around (such as Invisible Girl, Aoyoma, Nezu, Yaoyorozu, Kirishima, Class 1B teacher) but the most popular seemed to be Kaminari and Present Mic. They weren’t the most likely (although there was evidence) but it was the most dramatic and the source of a lot of fan comics and fanfiction. There was also the idea that Kaminari was faking his electricity making him dumb.

2024-06-05 03:55:17 +0000 UTCI would 100% be fore a rereaction of the first Ayoama episode. Though probably no time.

2024-06-05 03:34:37 +0000 UTCI see! Like with Aoyama I think time, effort, and potential have to be accounted for. People are not still images or just the sum total of the events in their lives. It can be tempting to think that way because ultimately we have to make decisions about people, sometimes life or death decisions, and it can be advantageous to generalize and then avoid. But I think that comes undone immediately when we think about how we would like to be treated and how we typically view ourselves, which is so much more complex and nuanced and allows for more weight on the present and the future. There's also the question of, for how long do you get to not be accountable for your own choices based on the ways you were affected early in your development? Personally I lean very heavily on the idea of personal responsibility, to a perhaps extreme degree. I think you can acknowledge how things in the past were unfair or cruel. I think you can recognize how they affected you. I don't like the idea of trauma being a deflection for responsibility. As a side note, I think that kind of permanent past style castigation is often less directed at doing good, and more about gaining an edge over someone, posturing, gaining feelings of superiority, etc.

2024-06-05 02:11:30 +0000 UTCIt’s why I love Jon Swasey’s performance so much. And you’ll be hearing him a lot this season.

2024-06-05 02:09:30 +0000 UTCHah that's great, totally missed that. Like I said I can't tell how much is him being extremely arrogant and how much it is deliberate antagonistic wit
Alex G
2024-06-05 02:06:46 +0000 UTCThere's an argument going around that Endeavor is worse than Dabi since without Endeavor there would be no Dabi. Shoto appears to be on that side since he seems to relate to Dabi as they had the same tragic backstory and also is still vey much at odds with his father. However, Endeavor is the only one of the two that is actively trying to improve at the moment which is what was discussed a lot in this episode. I was just curious on your thoughts regarding this debate.

2024-06-05 02:06:41 +0000 UTCLater I was thinking about the difference between AFO's, "if it doesn't work you discard them," and 1-A's refusal to let Aoyama slip through the cracks. They treat their enemies better than AFO treats his allies

2024-06-05 02:05:58 +0000 UTCNooooo, not "finger blast ayoma's mom" :.)

2024-06-05 02:03:47 +0000 UTCUnrelated, but as much as I agree about the unhelpfulness and problems of national borders, I'm still excited for this year's VNL. Canada is average, and the US has kinda had a so-so start, but Japan's team is doing very well. Just before the Olympics, too.

2024-06-05 01:48:05 +0000 UTCI thought it was an especially effective way of portraying All for One's arrogant sociopathy to have him use a burnt out lighter as a metaphor for how little his redundant pawns mean to him in his speech to, of all people, Toya/Dabi. Maybe not "speech to" so much as "speech about"?
Ryan
2024-06-05 01:44:06 +0000 UTCOne of my favorite aspects of AFO is how he believes that you can catch more flies with honey… in a way. He has so many different minions that he coerces with so many different methods. Blackmail through “requests”, raising them up at their lowest, “partnerships” where the other party is unaware of their powerlessness, promising them power and change. He’s basically like the devil, the perfect antithesis of the series’ message, and helps emphasis the amazing aspects of the series.

2024-06-05 01:38:50 +0000 UTCSet the community into a frenzy the whole week lol

2024-06-05 01:36:55 +0000 UTCYeah, the School Brief light novels completely dispel that notion. She lives a happy life. Her parents are rather simple, they are old money and love their daughter a ton.
Matthew Richson
2024-06-05 01:33:12 +0000 UTCFor the longest time I thought the traitor was gonna be Yaoyorozu. She and Todoroki were the ones who got in on recommendations but unlike Shoto we have no idea who her parents are or how much influence they have. Im kinda relieved since shes become one of my favorite side characters from class 1a

2024-06-05 01:31:14 +0000 UTCYou too can be a hero… where have I heard that before?

2024-06-05 01:15:34 +0000 UTCAnd I must say that the dub has just kicked it up a notch this season. It’s always been very strong. But this season just hits different. It must be due to the new dub director they got. The voice actor for Momo was the director for the last few seasons, and this season Ojiro’s VA took over.

2024-06-05 01:09:27 +0000 UTCSo apparently Horikoshi intended to reveal this all the way back during the training camp arc but his editors talked him out of it. And looking back on it, you can see all the subtle hints that it was Aoyama. Which you could not have been more in line with because you noticed his absence starting last season. 😂 And when chapter 335 dropped, it ended with AfO saying he had many friends, so readers were left thinking that Hagakure was the traitor for a week only for him play us for fools and reveal that it was actually Aoyama. Who fans had long theorized was the traitor.
