Also a lil fun fact, Netero's training/aura initially scared that eagle away. That same eagle made it's way to the palace and was then scared by Meruem's aura and made it into Komugi's room through a window. Then it attacked lol

I interpreted "right you're pouf" a lil differently to you. I thought he was confirming that yes, that is YOUR name but what is mine.

Very cool

This is a wonderful detail

There's so much I want to say about *how* the characters speak, but to try to sum things up, basically (at least for now; I don't remember later episodes in enough detail to say) whenever the King talks about other people, he exclusively uses forms that put that person beneath his level. Whenever the Royal Guard talk to him, they use forms that put him above their level. Komugi (whose name means "wheat" or "small grain" in Japanese; almost certainly a reference to being the lowest level in the chain possible) tries to use the same honorific speech as the Royal Guard, but flubs it because she doesn't know how to use it. It's kinda like if people use the word "whom" all the time trying to sound fancy, but in a way that actually doesn't make grammatical sense.

The duality of Hunter x Hunter, showing the best of humanity through monsters and showing the monstrous nature of humanity through humans it's so cool

I love the double expectation subversion, where at first the king says that there are different forms of strength and he reflects on killing a child which makes you think that he’s changing then it subverts ur expectations as he doubles down by saying how that proves how his power is the greatest. Later on when he goes to the room to kill Komugi, he instead saves her and shows some form of compassion which subverts ur expectations again

Andre Tan

So Nature and Gungi win by default.

Anya Mcghee

Yeah his panicking isn't helping him any! It is all too relatable though.

Alex G

I can't get over how awesome it is that after all that, she needs to retire to her room because the King is slowing down her progress. Or that is, he definitely unlocked those abilities, but then that had a seemingly exponential upward effect. The impossibility of catching up is so heartbreakingly (and hilariously) palpable

Alex G

I think the king returned to his factory settings in order to console himself because he's currently so confused in regards to the things he's feeling, and he needed to have things make sense again. So "I am the King! Ultimate power! (and that's all I need to know)." But you can't lie to yourself for long..

ODIS

I was wondering the same. Either way it's nature winning, probably.

Alex G

It's a bizarre thing to think and say. I can't substantiate it in the show at all, but I think where that feeling comes from is that while Youpi is dedicated to the "King," he's attached to a very specific version of the King that perhaps no longer exists. Yet it's so vital to his self of identity, purpose, vision of the future that it would be personally threatening to see any signs of that slipping away. Youpi himself seems to be big on "prediction," as it's something that gives him comfort and the feeling that everything is going as he's always seen it.

Alex G

Ah yes, the most iconic line from Pouf: “YOUR MAJESTY!!!” *sobs and plays violin* (heterosexually)

Chris Sharpe

The scene when the king asks the royal guard about his name will always be top tier scene for me, because it manages to show a bit of each of their characters. Pouf's ideal, Youpi's honest loyalty, and Pitou's whimsy. Also, i def agree that gungi subplot is pure chefs kiss.

Tempheror

While I hate to say it since I had a similar way of thinking, but pouf’s way of thinking almost always leads to bad decisions. And clearly his overthinking isn’t helping either. His scene in ep 99 adds a lot to his character and this situation.

Salvatore

Can we talk about how a simple cat (Pitou) on the roof can be so menacing? and yeah the 3 royal guards are actually very different, youpi kinda goes with the flow funny enough he is the most "normal" of the 3, Pitou tho always putting the king first is kinda selfish when the matter is a good fight, and Pouf thinks too much!

Sonozaki Shinji

I love this episode because it showcases Komugi’s true mastery of the game compared to the rest of the world. She is the 5 time world champion and nobody has ever come close to her to cause her to unlock her nen until the King.

Justice Hastings

Relating to a butterfly violin dancer out of all people is such a drag ):

Salvatore

Since the ants are evolving to become more human, does that mean humanity would still kinda win even if they lost?

Anya Mcghee

While I do agree with yours thoughts on how it would lead to betrayal in certain situations, but in a situation like this one where the person is a royal guard that dedicates his life for a king, I don’t think betrayal is really an option, well at least from what we’ve seen until now someone that is so fixated on how his actions would harm the king even to a small extent wouldn’t really have this thought don’t you think ? I think he might go out of his way to try and “fix” this problem but idk about betrayal.

Salvatore

Yeah watching again he calls Youpi by name right before he says "that's your name." Neferpitou's answer is fine. It just reminded me of situations where I want (unfairly) a clear answer to an unsolvable problem that only I can really decide on. "Your name is whatever you want it to be" is painful if the underlying question is "what do I want my name to be?" But it's also the correct answer, the asking of the question is likely the deferring of the problem to someone else.

Alex G

It's amazing, I never expected the king to be so interesting 😂

Alex G

On the topic of Pitou’s response to the King, I’d say that while in general that sort of answer isn’t very helpful, given the context of his question it works a bit better. The King was not really asking “what is my name” so much as asking for their opinion on names, hence why Youpi responds the way he does. If it was just asking for his name, he would have just said he doesn’t know it. It’s also why the King opens with “Right, you’re Pouf.” It wasn’t that he barely knew his name, instead he was setting himself up for the question he was going to ask. In this context, all of their responses perfectly reflect their personalities. Youpi recognises he couldn’t give an answer the King would deem worthwhile, Pouf turns it around by attempting to divert the King’s train of thought, as it doesn’t sit well with his idealized version of the King. Pitou responds with the idea that names are something you should choose for yourself. It wasn’t a way of avoiding giving meaningful advice, as she believed her advice would benefit the King.

Oak

yeah i get it haha, was just saying it hints at those two more specifically since youpi has his own little moment of growth a bit later on than this.

Fudgemancookie

It shows Youpi's personality and thought processes just as well. He's not interested or doesn't have the capacity to look that deep into these things and he knows it, so he just doesn't bother. He's just there to follow orders and he fully accepts this, however he was also agreeing with Pouf there near the end because he still has an idealized version of the King in his mind

Sunny

This is my favorite hxh episode.... love the dynamics between the king and komugi and the royal guard!

Potato

I just figured he was using that natural sort of animal predation nen and sensed a weak, helpless animal

Alex G

Right right that's what was confusing me. Only the other side knows

Alex G

Also I think one theory about why that hawk suddenly attacked Komugi was because it was present at the King's sudden Nen outburst, and his negative Nen, that bloodlust, caused it to suddenly act out and attack.

Jo

the king asking his royal guards that question regarding name's is one of my favorite for the guard's simple responses that encapsulate what they prioritize generally (atleast for pouf and pitou). with pouf emphasizing on the title and status of being a supreme leader, and pitou's fixation on the king picking a name that would make him feel best (a very empathetic approach)

Fudgemancookie

The King did get a name, but the only people there when the Queen said it were the hunters and a few ants. The royal guard and King had already left

Sunny

If you'll recall, the Queen DID give The King a name - "Meruem", which she said meant "the light that illuminates all". However, The King and the Royal Guards had all left before she spoke his name. Colt, Chairman Netero, Knov, Morel, Shoot and Knuckle were there trying to save her life, at Colt's request.
