I think Netero came to the conclusion that there is no amount of talking that can make the King not want to be King. Now give Komugi 1000 more Gungi games and she make the King not want to be King lol.

2024-07-18 03:28:21 +0000 UTCThe parallels between Meruem and Gon continue to multiply. here they both sit in the same position except one uses that position to open a dialogue whilst the other uses it to shut down any dialogue.

2024-07-18 02:54:29 +0000 UTCIt’s worth noting that the king said “power should be used to protect the weak who deserve to live.” He did NOT say “power should be used to protect the weak.” There’s a pretty big difference between those two sentences

2024-07-17 17:19:51 +0000 UTCNetero is so good here because he knows that even if the king falls over to the human side, simply being that powerful is in itself a huge threat to humanity as it's far too much for one human being, which makes both sides of the king an equal threat

2024-07-17 09:33:10 +0000 UTCI love this show so much. The Kings (and neteros) thought process are really interesting. The King makes a pretty easy mistake, which is like you said, consolidating power into one individual. If he were to think a little more collectively, he might be not to something, but because of his perceived birthright as the ant king, his perspective is skewed. I disagree with a couple of your takes on what equality is functionally when ppl talk about it, and I do think we have an obligation to minimize suffering in the ways we can by dismantling systems of violent oppression that are horrific and downright sick, but that’s a little too much to get into with a comment. So I’ll stop before I get crucified for being a dirty commie lmao. Rlly excited for your thoughts on the next episodes, all of it is fantastic but ep 125 onward is a really special stretch of episodes.

2024-07-17 07:14:43 +0000 UTCHe seemed „funny“-sadistic not actually „evil“ thou. He was not more sadistic than any other hunter at the exams

2024-07-17 06:56:56 +0000 UTCWas Netero ever supposed to be a "good guy" though? He seems wilfully sadistic at the Hunter exam. I'm not really sure what he's fighting for, but I'd be hard-pressed to come up with a lofty, benevolent aim.

2024-07-17 06:12:12 +0000 UTCI think it’s interesting how the story is slowly starting to frame netero as sort of like the villain here. The king who he initially thought was this monster is willing to talk things out. The king even says that power should be used to protect the weak , which sounds like such a shonen protagonist thing to say (compare that to the king we first saw early on) and netero who’s supposed to be the good guy is refusing to hear any of what the king says. He even says it in this episode that the reason he is fighting is cos he doesn’t want his heart to be swayed. Like I think you’re kinda right when you say that it’s an ego thing now cos it’s like Netero doesn’t even want to entertain the possibility that he would not have to eradicate this supposed “monster”. Even when Netero decides to use words he decides to taunt the king with his own name almost as sort of like a cheap trick. If the roles were reversed what Netero is doing and his attitude definitely feels like smtg a villain would do which makes it really hard to pick sides in this conflict of ants vs humans. Although the way the king wants to go about achieving his goals isn’t right, Netero doesn’t even entertain the idea of trying to change the kings mind when the king himself was willing to hear Netero out.

2024-07-17 03:33:52 +0000 UTCI hope you watched or will watch ep 125 and 26 together. And Netero might be pressuring the king to fight also cause he's a Hunter, and they love a challenge.

2024-07-17 03:13:02 +0000 UTCI can't respond to most of what Alex said without getting close to spoilers, and I really want to talk about the language in this episode. I'm a little worried that it would quickly just devolve into a Japanese class, but I'll try to keep to the most important things. There's a lot of back-and-forth between Netero and the King in terms of who's talking down to whom. In Japanese, you can indicate whether the person you're talking to is ranked equally, above you, or below you, based mostly on the verb forms you use. Netero and the King both are putting the other below themselves, often with Netero repeating the form the King uses verbatim. For example, at 3:19: "Yurushite-yaran-de-mo-nai" (I would not be opposed to sparing you) [+ verb form indicates: as a favor to you] [+ you underling] Compare that to 28:16: "Oshiete-yaran-de-mo-nai" (I would not be opposed to telling you) [+ as a favor to you] [+ you underling] For context, no one in the real world uses these forms in conversation. The whole "yaran-de-mo-nai" is so rare that if you search for it in Google, Hunter x Hunter comes up first. Lots of other examples of mostly that. I assume someone like madgod or Sonozaki Shinji will eventually talk about the meaning of the title card, so I'll stop there, haha.

2024-07-17 03:02:56 +0000 UTCIt’s so interesting to see the King’s thought process at the moment. I love how despite his initial views being challenged through his interactions with Komugi, his goal remains the same, albeit with the finer details changed. When confronted with new ideas, what’ll sometimes happen is instead of your whole world view shifting, those new ideas become integrated with any pre-existing ones. It can be just as hard to dismiss old ideas as it can be to accept new ones. This is exactly what’s happened with the King, and Netero recognizes that. Also yeah, Netero’s win condition is probably my favorite hunter exam callback in the show.

2024-07-17 02:14:19 +0000 UTCAnd it didn't work out well for Hanzo or Gon's arm either, the last time Netero set this win condition haha

2024-07-17 01:48:37 +0000 UTC"Force you to admit defeat, without killing you?" What a peculiar win condition... I wonder if we've seen that before...

2024-07-17 01:43:50 +0000 UTCYes, I agree. Fuck commie ants. But seriously, anyone that offers "true equality" or "utopia" is either ignorant or malicious.
