2024-07-18 07:57:39 +0000 UTCAhh, the infamous Ikalgo blue ball episode. Despite its unfortunate placement, I really like Ikalgo/Welfin’s storylines. There’s something so real about the feeling of letting your guard down and being able to speak openly. I think it’s why therapy works for many people. Being able to talk without any fear of judgment or concern for how your words might affect you is sometimes enough to work through things.

2024-07-18 05:18:09 +0000 UTCI think there's another side to the issue of self-sacrifice that we see in Ikalgo. I'm maybe wording it strangely here, but the consent to be sacrificed or killed is present with Ikalgo where it obviously isn't with Brovada. For the question, why would Ikalgo be more willing to do something that leads to his own death while not killing someone else, I think that sums up the gut feeling I get as to why. That does open up a can of worms though, and I agree that Ikalgo sort of defaults to, "I'm gonna sacrifice myself," a lot, and maybe that's a flaw similar to Killua's, "never fight someone stronger," flaw. Before looking for a way to overcome he goes for the nuclear option.

2024-07-18 02:08:50 +0000 UTCI think you first brought up your point about how giving to others is a gift in of itself way back on your ATLA reactions. I always disliked receiving anything from others, help or gifts, but you were able to get me to really think about the why and realize how not accepting gifts with genuine gratefulness is doing a disservice to that person. I still struggle with it all these years later, and it's still my instinct to want to deny gifts or help, but every time I think about how I enjoy helping out the people I love. I'm basically always paying for food when I'm out with friends and not because they need it, I just like to. It's a lot easier to accept from others when you realize your acceptance is a gift to them as well
