I was originally going to say that I don't like how they translated the title, but then Alex's speech about the greater purpose of our existence addresses it perfectly. The title is "bu-no-tsuyomi x to x bu-no-kiwami." In this case, "bu" is 武, martial arts. "Tsuyomi" means power or strength, so in other words achieving the top rank or becoming the best. "Kiwami" is 極み, which means the boundary of limits of something, and it's precisely that idea of making a contribution such that the whole art form advances / the ceiling is raised for everyone / we create a legacy greater than our individual actions. I am, as I often am, very grateful for and admiring of Alex's ability to pierce through everything and articulate a far greater message. 🧡

2024-07-24 02:51:41 +0000 UTCNetero is even more impressive when you remember Wing's lesson about how people have lower efficiency with their nen usage when they use abilities centered around categories that are far away from their own category on the nen chart. Wing's example of this was Kastro using conjuration with 60% efficiency to make a clone. As an enhancer he has the potential to use enhancer abilities like his tiger bite fist at 100% efficiency and Wing believed he would be a much more formidable opponent if he focused all his potential into that ability instead of a category he has less aptitude for. This same nerf also applies to Netero since he is an enhancer according to Togashi. His signature ability, the 100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva, has him conjure a statue and then manipulate its arms to attack, so he is dipping his toes into his two worst categories to use it. The only thing he is using his natural nen category for, enhancement, is to enhance the strength of the statue's attacks and also probably to enhance his own body to the point where he can move his hands incredibly fast in prayer. It makes me wonder whether he nerfed himself on purpose to make things more of a challenge or if he was so powerful that this slight nerf didn't even cross his mind or faze him at all when he decided to create this ability since no one was ever able to stand up to him even with this hindrance.
