hunter comes in like a hunter LMAO

tanasia (bakugoat)

That's kind of you to say, but it's nothing special. Just a lot of time slowly accumulating things from interacting with others, trying and failing to do things, and then wanting to do better next time, haha. I started learning in university, but made the most progress living in Akita a while back. 😀 As for study material recommendations, it would depend on your level. If you're a beginner, then literally anything at all is great as long as it meets two conditions: 1) you like it and want to continue doing it, 2) it's at a level where you can get something out of it

Ryan

How did you learn Japanese (assuming it’s not your native language) and what resources for learning would you recommend? You seem to have an impressive grasp on the nuances of the language!

That summary had me laughing for a solid minute before I ever even started the video, how do you do it? Great reaction to a great episode! I do love how Endeavor and Bakugou have different flavors of the same journey, they complement each other very nicely. But I also had the thought that Endeavor's way to motivate himself is closer to Toya rather than Shouto. Then again, I really liked when you talked about how there's something positive underlying that, so maybe the truth is, he's somewhere inbetween. Consciously, he's using the negativity, but underneath, there's something positive he doesn't even seem to notice.

Finally got a chance to catch up with MHA so commenting a bit late. I feel like your discussion at the end about the different kinds of ways to do good/help people can be extrapolated pretty far. You even brought up what I was planning on mentioning about the different parts of even a tv show that come together to have an effect on a person. Looking at some manga/anime that have affected me the most, I think of shows like Vinland, or HxH, or even MHA. Thanks to many different aspects coming together, they become something special to a lot of people. Most often it’ll begin with a single mangaka, then maybe if it’s popular enough they get some assistants. Then maybe it gets an anime, and that involves another whole team of people to help create something that can influence people’s lives. It’s basically the same thing within MHA itself. From All Might, to the other heroes, to the students, and to the public. Most people involved often won’t be able to see every part of influence on others, but that doesn’t make it any less powerful to the people influenced.

I like the fact that Endeavor’s Origin wasn’t overly tragic nor a parallel to his own misgivings. His father died a pathetic, meaningless death having failed to save an innocent life, on top of that an Omake establishes that Endeavor is from a working class background, so in Endeavor’s eyes, his father (which for most kids are their heroes) failed him by not living up to his expectations of what he should have been in life or death. This must have instilled a great fear of mediocrity within him, & just like Bakugo, had tied all of his self worth & value to being the best. It nicely parallels against Bakugo who was challenged from the moment he had gotten into U.A., allowing him to recognise his own shortcomings before they destroyed him & everything around him. In the end they both come to the same conclusion To fight for a Bright Future The only difference is that Bakugo has learned to forgive himself & resolve his own shortcomings which has allowed him to grow. Endeavor recognises that he is irredeemable & that the only path forward is to guarantee the future of the next generation.

Yeah they launched some new features too

Lol the music, the drama, the going up in the air... And the history with that nomu that one time

Alex G

Have they changed patreon UI. Comments look dope.

Perchik

You seemed to be very in the moment at the prominence burn as Endeavour's speech was specifically telling that he won't die so he can keep atoning and looking at Touya lol

Maurice Adler

And again with the similarities between Meruem and Shigaraki, which makes it perfect that they share the same japanese voice!

Maurice Adler

i like the detail that endeavor’s prominence burn almost seemed to be directed inward, meanwhile he normally sends it outward to his enemy. it shows that he isn’t looking for redemption, because that implies an end to his atonement or that it is given my someone else. he will keep paying it until he dies because that is how he will pay back what he took.

Chris Sharpe

It's hard to think of a solution that could be practically implemented for groups of people but I think it's probably a combination of interest, future vision, and self directedness. For some people it might be as simple as just being told that their education is in their own hands and not to rely on anyone else for it. But that definitely wouldn't work for everyone 😂 Just hearing the framework I described was interesting and useful for me though. I had thought about it in the context of school but never so broadly. Simultaneously there are other categories where I'm definitely in the "it might work for others but not for me" category or even the "I'll prove it doesn't work for me" category

Alex G

My x Hero x Academia. Although it is really almost over the top how much the ideologies of Tsukishima from Haikyuu, Meruem from Hunter x Hunter, and Shigaraki here have in common, and they all (in Japanese, anyway) have the same voice actor to boot.

Ryan

But really what I want to say is that I literally wanted to applaud during Alex's talk about students at around 20:00, haha. I don't know how to get people closer to the top of that scale, but yes, that very, very deeply resonates with me. I see it all the time, especially in a class like Japanese 101. Many students start with nothing. They're learning あいうえお together. Their teacher is the same person. The homework is the same. The outcomes are not. How do we get more people to pull themselves up on that scale? If anyone knows, I'm eager to hear it.

Ryan

Sticking to my lane, I'll make comments about the music and language, haha: 1) The wounded hero part of the title is pretty straightforward, but "burning bright and true" is a bit complex. How you say "The real deal" or "the one, the only," "the OG," etc. in Japanese is 'shoushin-shoumei' (正真正銘). Instead, Horikoshi creates a new word by replacing all four of those characters with ones that happen to be pronounced the same way but that mean something different: 焼身照命 is burn-body-shining-lifeforce, which obviously have multiple references this episode. 2) I also thought that Endeavor's actions were going to be self-sacrifice. The music is actually a new version of "Your power" (Todoroki Shoto's theme), but mixed together with a theme that's had a bunch of iterations. It started as the very positive "You can be a hero" in Season 1, but then in the Heroes Rising movie, became something much grittier in a soundtrack called "Joint Struggle", and in S6 that also evolved again. So, much like how all the threads of the narrative are coming together in the action itself, they're all blending together in the music, too, which makes me happy, haha. (I love so-called "program music," or some people attribute the style to Wagner's leitmotifs, but it goes way back before him) 3) The new OP is by Yuuri, who's very popular in Japan outside of anime songs, but the lyrics to this song are (in my opinion) a bit too close to one of his most recent hits, Betelgeuse, which you can see here: https://youtu.be/cbqvxDTLMps?si=jl17CCqJPTuQtXPZ (The whole "何十年、何百年..." nanjuunen, nanbyakunen... "for tens of years, for hundreds of years..." is really similar to the OP at, say, 1:23 "何百回、何千回、全開で" "nanbyakkai, nanzenkai, zenkai-de" "hundreds of times, thousands of times, at full capacity")

Ryan

We have a string of great episodes here. I'm so hyped.

Will the King be able to rise in the gungi ranks professionally while balancing school and complex social relationships?

Alex G

Can't wait for your future reactions of Hunter comes in like a Hunter.

Anya Mcghee

This was one of my most highly anticipated episodes of the season and it delivered! And the dub I was hyped for simply for Patrick Seitz’s performance, and he more than lived up to my expectations! I rewatched that Prominence Burn SEVERAL times! If you have any confusion as to what’s going on with AfO, that get explained in episode 12.
