2024-08-14 00:58:01 +0000 UTCFeels like there were big plans for Gyro that I'd love to see one day

2024-08-14 00:56:38 +0000 UTCYeah my feeling is that Pouf does get closure for the darkness that drives him for the entire arc (his entire life). I think he gets purified by overwhelming "light" in this episode. That's not only a testament to the king, it's testament to the fact that there was that pure beautiful love in him this entire time, it was just being filtered through something else that wasn't quite right.

2024-08-14 00:55:06 +0000 UTCThat's a really cool point, I hadn't made that friendship connection.

2024-08-14 00:53:29 +0000 UTCPouf definitely one of the most compelling characters this arc for me :D

2024-08-14 00:52:56 +0000 UTCI think I said something to this effect in the following video, but I think what's cool is it can be both :D (human and more than human) The way I look at it, it's something like... Humans aren't born into a vacuum, we're born into a system with parameters. And there's a huge range of how well we can fit into and honor that system (which I believe to be inherently beautiful, I think this is also the view expressed by the poem in the next episode). Our choices range from total destruction and spitting into the face of that beauty, or aligning ourselves with it. I also believe that we have natural internal mechanisms that guide us there, because it's beneficial for that system (the feeling of ah yes, THIS is right). And so watching characters rise to greatness in this kind of way that feels right is undeniably a human story, but it's also connected to something much bigger than humanity.

2024-08-13 19:52:59 +0000 UTCwell i mostly mean i want to see what togashi planned for the ending instead of his proposed one if he couldn't continue that he posted some time ago, not that they are bad I'm just curious what his mind would come up with

2024-08-13 18:41:21 +0000 UTCeven if it's never completed it's still one of the best anime/mangas of all time imo. The anime ending in particular is extremely satisfying even tho it technically isn't the end of the story

2024-08-13 09:50:17 +0000 UTCPoor Welfin, aging 100 years in 1 second. He is the real victim here. The artistic direction in this episode was pretty cool now that you mention it. It makes me want to go look at the manga chapters to see what they look like.

2024-08-13 08:01:13 +0000 UTCI finally went and looked up where the names of the Royal Guard and King came from. (Not sure if translators work well enough here, but credit where it's due: https://whomor.com/blog/2549 ) TLDR: Meruem is from the Ancient Egyptian God of the Sun, Melwel, and the other three are all his attendants.

2024-08-13 06:49:49 +0000 UTCI dont know if someone else has told this before: But the manga clearly shows Gyro being alive due to his insane will. immediately after getting reborn as an Ant he left the hive and had a crazy, sinister will so strong he was not effected by any Ant hivemind thing. He left without speaking a word & we only saw him under a hoodie (so no face reveal) but it was stated that Gyro would cross Gon one day in fateful meeting

2024-08-13 06:12:13 +0000 UTCI think that’s safe to say. imo Togashi shows how wrestling with things like power, morality, relationships, etc. is the human experience. And whether someone becomes a worthy God-King like Meruem or a monstrous force of violence like Gon, or somewhere inbetween, it’s a human story all the same.

2024-08-13 04:58:27 +0000 UTCThis ep is just incredible. I honestly have loved watching you sway back and forth on all of these characters and their decisions. I think Togashi truly succeeded in portraying real nuance and emotional complexity in almost every character this arc. And most of the visuals from the Welfin scene are ripped directly from the manga. Togashi is just a really excellent visual storyteller. And on the opening scene, Togashi is definitely more of a materialist in terms of his beliefs, it’s not a mistake that he includes class disparity among the great evils of humanity along with the “rose” (atomic bomb). Really, it’s been there since the start with stuff like the phantom troupe and meteor city, as well as Gyros whole backstory. Super excited for the next 2 episodes, they’re both in the top 3 eps of the show imo.

2024-08-13 04:49:22 +0000 UTCIt also feels like more than just becoming human. It feels like he’s becoming something like an ultimate realization of what it means to be human. It’s kinda hard to put into words but I think Alex kinda mentioned something to this point at the end of the episode.

2024-08-13 04:45:21 +0000 UTCI think that how you put it with Meurem’s “light” being a capability of humanity is perfect. That’s pretty much the whole point of the arc, the capabilities of humanity that is. It’s tragic in the moment knowing the situation Meruem is in, but I feel at least, that it makes it more inspiring. I also feel like were he not dying, Pouf’s now in a position to where he might actually undergo some serious growth. Even after far too many watchthroughs, there’s so much about this show I have yet to fully unpack. Here’s to this incredible arc soon coming to a close. Gonna be tough to say goodbye to this show again soon.

2024-08-13 04:42:35 +0000 UTCyour discussions on his character throughout the arc have been very enjoyable!
Salvatore
2024-08-13 04:09:27 +0000 UTCLove that throughout the story friendship has been the candle in the dark: If Gon hadn’t become friends with Killua then Killua wouldn’t have become friends with Ikalgo, Ikalgo wouldn’t have reconnected with Welfin as ants because of their previous friendship as humans and then Welfin wouldn’t have been able to reconnect Meruem to his friendship with Komugi I also think it’s not a mistake that the arc is set in a fictionalized North Korea, a place known for dictators who force their populace to revere them like Gods. But Meruem is literally a God with followers who genuinely revere him and would give their lives for his sake. Also loved the irony of the bomb. The most powerful weapon we created to destroy ourselves is actually the reason why humanity is saved.

2024-08-13 04:07:19 +0000 UTCAh, the agony of pouf’s arc ending. The line “all I can do is nod” is everything
Salvatore
2024-08-13 04:06:54 +0000 UTCI’ve always enjoyed how at the beginning of this episode the show paints humans as a contagious toxin on the Earth but by the end Meruem finally “becoming human” is an incredible moment for his character arc and leaves us thinking he’s turned to the good side.
Jaime
2024-08-13 04:05:49 +0000 UTCBecause the game is made up, Togashi used most of the moves that are explained to the viewers as basically 1 to 1 parallels with other things that happen in the arc in some way lol I never even caught them, and ended up seeing them pointed out in a comment of like the 3rd or 4th reaction channel I was watching
