In Hunter x Hunter 139, Alluka × And × Something, Something still probably a better sibling than Illumi.

The way it was described to me, and what I think makes the most sense, is that Alluka was born male, but like Kalluto was dressed in more typically feminine clothes by their mother because of her desire for a daughter. However, Something is female and shares Alluka's body, but everyone in the family save Killua regard Something as demonic/not family, so they exclusively refer to Alluka using he/him. Killua, who loves Something, essentially validates her existence by using she/her. There are a ton of different explanations/theories out there on this topic, hilariously I think it's one of the most debated Hunter x Hunter topics. I'd be interested to see what gendered language Killua uses in the original Japanese manga to know more.

Same, and I love seeing Silva's understanding/resignment/pride seeing Killua pop tf off lol.

"Maybe he can save Milluki next" hahahaha good one That being said, it makes me wonder if Killua had Alluka touch Milluki and say "make Milluki a better person" "'Kay" what would the result be? Edit: on 2nd thought, Alluka/something might just look at Killua when he makes the request and say "Error: Request impossible. Please request something else."

Nice, thanks have a great rest of day/night

Big Fuze

Yeah it was cool to get this cleared up. I think in that episode my hunch was that it was underhandedness disguised as love

Alex G

Partially can't answer that but i don't think so.

Douglas Davis

Could it be possible that the difference is due to Killua referring to Alluka while the family is referring to Something?

Alex G

I’m pretty sure there was something separate from the manga that officially said all the Zoldyk children in this generation were born male. But I also can’t read Japanese so I see all this stuff second/third/fourth hand in comment sections on reaction channels so take it with a grain of salt ig lol

Sunny

OK thanks. I didn't know Kalluto identified as male.

Douglas Davis

Yeah, Alluka is either transgender or the Zoldycks (except for Killua) have some other reasons to misgender her.

Ruma Risto

To add to this, Kalluto (the one in the phantom troupe) fully identifies as a male, he just looks effeminate. Alluka was born male but seems to identify as female, and Killua is the only one in the family that respects her wishes, since he’s also the only one in the family that even sees her as a family member.

Sunny

The reveal that Silva ordered the insertion of the inhibitor needle puts his convo with Killua from episode 24 where he tells Killua to never betray his friends in a whole new sinister light. He probably thought that Killua might be more inclined to return to the family if Gon were dead and deduced that Killua would leave Gon to die at some point just like Bisky(who didn't even know about the needle like Silva did) also deduced.

I was super confused watching these episodes consecutively cause suddenly everyone said "he" and I thought I had been misunderstanding the whole time.

Alex G

I don't know if you have been told or have been wondering but they all call Alluka he/him or brother and only Killua says she/her. In fact they are all male even the other sister that joined the phantom troupe. I think it is supposed to show that killua is the only one that cares.

Douglas Davis

Right, so the dual identities are "aru-ka" (Alluka, but also "is something there?") and then "nani-ka" (Something). I enjoy that the tiger Zodiac is wearing a baseball uniform with "Kanzai" written on the back. It's a nod to the pro team the Hanshin Tigers, from Kansai.

“I have issues, but you are just as bad.” is easily my favorite Hisoka line in the show. Even Hisoka is able to recognize he’s got problems when faced with Illumi, who genuinely believes Killua loves him the most.

Oak

I love Killua’s solution to leaving, it’s so simple in hindsight but still super impressive in the moment.

Justice Hastings

It will be either Saturday or Sunday night (US time) depending on how things go!

Alex G

I bet it is still pretty soon since the last release but is there an ETA on the last invincible episode ?
