At 24:22 I saw the exact moment bro came to terms with the fact Pariston was one of his favorite characters now

Spider #13

Agreed on all three

That's true, how much impact it has will vary widely from person to person, with some being highly effected. And then there are of course examples where the wrong person ends up creating catastrophic loss of life. I don't want to imply either that it doesn't matter or that it can't go horribly wrong. I think what I was trying to get at is that there is probably a disconnect between: - what function we think politics SHOULD serve vs what it actually serves in application and why it really exists - the amount of input and control one feels one has on it vs. the amount of input and control one actually has (to the point where we'll sacrifice things that are in our hands and are more directly actionable for the opposite). - meaning well vs doing good (which will probably require defining what the thing ACTUALLY is and seeing the goal)

I think there's something else Pariston is seeking that's higher than winning an election. He's a true hunter

Funny how that worked out

ging certainly feels like an author self-insert. togashi is very go-with-the-flow. he claimed the only part of the story he truly planned when the series started was the first 3 chapters. search up “togashi studio” or “togashi office” in google images and it will blatantly confirm your suspicions (not sure how to link it)

Not much language to talk about this episode. Ging calling Cheadle a "manualist" (a word many Japanese people believe comes from English but that had to be translated in the subtitles as "someone who always sticks to the manual") was pretty great, but that's about it. So, I'm leaving my comfort zone and disagreeing with Alex, as periodically happens. A common criticism of Alex's points on elections is that, while they might not materially affect the quality of life for those who are secure, consequences can often be very real for people who are already at a tipping point where small changes can mean drastically different outcomes (the poor, the sick, the displaced, and in general, the marginalized). Elections do have concrete consequences, but our system is such that most people are protected from the worst of most of them by numerous buffers. I would venture that the amount of empathy for those who are not protected by those buffers could explain a very large amount of voting behavior across cultures.

Ging: "He doesn't want to win. But he doesn't want to lose, either. That's what makes him strong." Really love that line. I think Ging means that Pariston is strong because he intentionally makes things harder for himself and as a result he's become accustomed to doing everything on hard difficulty so his unconventional thinking has reached such heights that he can find solutions which others like Cheadle or Mizaistom can't even begin to fathom.

The more I see Alex’s reaction to Pariston, the more I want to see his reaction to Dr. Stone

I see now that you had the foresight to delay watching HxH for so long because you wanted to align this specific arc during a US election year.
