Pollgate 6.0: New Show Poll

This is gonna be a complicated one!

TLDR:

First off, huge thank you to everyone who shared ideas with me either in the question form I posted, in comments, or privately.

There were a few major difficulties in making this poll:

1) Patreon polls are limited to 25 options despite hundreds of recommendations.

2) All the heavy favorites from the last handful of polls have either been completed or started (HxH, Haikyuu!!, Re: Zero, Steins Gate) which makes it seem less likely there will be a clear and obvious choice this time around, and more likely that the result will be controversial.

3) One great idea brought up is for me to pick something I want to watch, but for reasons I'm struggling to figure out I actually don't have any strong instincts right now for what the GREAT WORK of the current moment is in ANY country or medium (no AoT, no Breaking Bad, etc.). ((Why is this? Is it that there are no new works capturing collective interest, or is it because people are increasingly niching away from shared media movements, separated by varied interests and platforms? Am I the one in a bubble?))

My solution is this:

Other things:

This poll will run until the 21st @12pm EST, at which point I will either announce the new show or make a new poll that will run for another few days.

Schedule:

This week's videos will be few in number but long in time:

Today: MHA

Tomorrow: Re: Zero

Later this week: HxH Q&A

And then the following week will be:

MHA

Re: Zero

New show (latter half of the week)

Thank you and looking forward to the results!

Gabriel Stiritz

Nah Fallout’s the best show on this list

Seth

You should still react to Fallout it was the most popular show on Amazon for a reason, the poll isn’t the best tell for a good show to watch

Seth

its a parody lmao, its good but its not that deep at all. from goodwin would love to delve into a much more philosophical, deep show rather than a light, fun show. unfortunatly many people just vote one the most popular and dont take that into account with the particular reactor

Toidleboy

A lot of unexpected results in this poll for sure but I think OPM is probably the most on-the-nose Alex show on this list, no?

Rekway

Steins;Gate 0 didn't make the poll :( Don't think it would have had a chance anyways but yeah

DennisAnimeFan

I also neglected to put The Wire on this list. It's another one that would be a pretty massive departure in style and tone from the other content on this channel but deserves to be counted among the top "masterpiece" pieces of media, not that this list is necessarily the tippy top.

Xylen

ahh!!! i was scrolling the comments to see if anyone else would recommend my dear vampire show 🤍

Crystalrose

I missed the poll dang!!

Crystalrose

gurren lagann pleaseeee

Lmo

86 my beloved, it's so low on the poll. OPM is solid enough, sad to see most of my favorites on this list did pretty mediocre pollwise.

Alex DeYoung

BASED AND TRUE AND it is such a good anime/ animation

Sam B

Ping Pong the Animation probably too niche to ever win a poll, but it is a top tier work of art, so I recommend Goodwin and anyone who hasn't had the chance to see it yet gives it a chance

OptimalCaboose

omg ass class gang can we lock tf in... were mha and invincible not enough superhero stuff for the year 😭

Ayan

Dammit, Castlevania didn't make the cut. Well, guess I'll vote for Eighty Six this time, good amount of psychology and sociology to discuss with that series, plus cool action ;)

KrimzonHawka

Food wars is a good one!

Cori Curry

It's on the list of shows he's already seen.

Xylen

while there are quite a few shows I want you to watch first, I think you definitely should watch Food Wars at some point! If you get past the...weird food scenes involving nudity (which are actually pretty sparce in the show, and the worst one is in ht efirst episode, imo), then you get a show that has no right to have writing as good as it has. You wouldn't think a show about a cooking school would be as engaging as it is. While it isn't as deep of a show as some others you've watched, it's a character driven show with lots of room for thoughtful comments, and I think it could be a more light-hearted break from some more serious shows you watch,, while still being thought indicing.

Cole Hoffman

lmao same

Buddymax15

Everyone who can should try to get ‘Monster’ onto Goodwin’s radar, his discussions would be so amazing! Masterpiece of storytelling.

Thomas Steigerwald

Who would’ve guessed that the spinoff show with the 3rd lead from Rogue One would end up being the best Star Wars show to date? It’s wild how good it was.

Joey Healy

Gatekeeping anime? You're saying I don't get to enjoy an entire medium of entertainment? I just watch the ones without main characters wanting to sleep with children

Logan Williams

@LoganWilliams You are in the wrong realm of artistic expression if you don't wanna see "underage sexualization" lmfao. Anime is quite notorious for this.

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

This. This. This.

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

Sadly pretty much all slice of life/romcom anime is drastically less popular than action/fantasy stuff so we will never see Oregairu reactions. There is only one or two romance anime on the entire poll and they barely have votes at all. We may never get Goodwin reactions to shows like Fruits Basket or Kaguya Sama ever again.

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

HxH and Haikyuu absolutely destroyed the good taste on here sadly. Fruits Basket/Fullmetal Alchemist fanbase would've never treated 86 or Bocchi the Rock this harshly.

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

The Boys and One Punch Man... yeah we're cooked. Mushoku Tensei and Bocchi the Rock losing to Dr. Stone and Yu Yu Hashuko (two shows that will never be watched on here)... its so over

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

I will die on my lonely Run with the Wind hill. 💔 Other than that I just hope it's something not as battle-focused, I would love some variety.

Swanlady

I don't know that I am able to properly convey how excited I would be to rewatch Made in Abyss with you. Listening to the OST once again in hope that it'll somehow help make it happen. Not to claim any undue credit... but Violet Evergarden certainly went well didn't it?

7thdilemma

I love Naruto so much, it has those great inspiring moments like my hero academia. I hope that people vote for it.

Snor

Oh my god please one piece 🙂‍↕️🙏

oerwhat

Over 24 hours since I posted my initial comment but I forgot I wanted to recommend a show! It probably won't get much traction, but I'd love if you checked out the anime Wind Breaker at some point. It only has 13 eps right now but a season 2 is confirmed for 2025. I adore this show, it for some reason reminds me of Haikyuu in the way the characters are presented but instead of found family via volleyball its found family via beating the shit out of people (it has gang/delinquent themes). I feel like you'd have such good discussions about the characters!

Nox

While I'm definitely not complaining about the titles currently winning the poll, I will say its an absolute travesty that Eighty-Six and YuYu Hakusho aren't getting more votes than they have.

Jake White

You should do Berserk 1997

Jabin (Aelic)

I prefer to watch a full thing on my own before watching a reaction since I tend to watch stuff with my significant other

TheKraufen

I would love to see you react to Oregairu one day, given the complexity of the characters it would surely lead to a lot of fun talk

Omnitronx

I voted your lie in April, I would love to se some romance anime reactions :)

Marko

didn't get to put my recommendations this time because I was busy but I'm excited to see the outcome! Hopefully some One Punch Man Goodness ;)

Emman Reed

Im a little disappointed to see blue eye samurai losing so badly but I’m happy other good ones are winning

Doktor

I'm surprised you haven't done madoka magica yet! I feel like there's a lot of insight you could add to it but hey maybe when the next movie comes out

SlugShrug

I mean he does full reactions, i've watched a lot of new shows alongside him which i've never seen before, makes it more fun

Laggy

Lots of good choices but if the boys wins I likely won't be tuning in since I'm not caught up :(

TheKraufen

While I loved one piece I truly dislike the idea of it in a reaction channel, taking up a chunk of your time for soooooo long is just not worth how many other great anime’s you can fit in.

Reid Dawson

It seriously never gets old! I remember all the tears, anguish and emotional damage like it was yesterday :’) I would love to see genre-specific polls in the future; I think Nana would actually have a decent shot at winning a shojo or drama poll 🤞

Vee

The boys would be soo much fun

RoZiiii

i would burst into tears if Nana won lol also Naruto would be interesting but it’s obviously a long one

Cori Curry

Come on latent criminals, we’re sooo close. Let’s goooo!

Norrin Radd

I’d vote for one piece if it was one pace but would prefer some other shows over the full anime.

Nachreld

now, there are some things that will likely come within the next couple years that will be big hits. Chainsaw Man’s movie and season 2 will eventually come out, and they are adapting the content that truly made the series big in the first place. a one-shot of that same creator was recently made into a widely beloved movie called Look Back, which will release internationally soon. he has an equally good (probably better) one shot called Goodbye Eri that will also likely be a popular movie. later seasons of JJK will make big waves (especially season 4), the final season of MHA too. One Piece has been making more and more waves with it’s growing popularity overseas, it’s live action, and even news of a more concise, better animated remake made by WIT Studios (same guys who did AOT seasons 1-3 + Vinland Saga). Bleach is release the next part of it’s final arc soon. There is a newer manga that called Kagurabachi (actually hit it’s 1 year anniversary today), which seems to be the next big thing. plus plenty of other growing manga that will get popular animes soon.

Chris Sharpe

just saw your question about why there doesn’t seem to be a single great work right now. I think there are a few answers to this. one reason may just be the fact you experienced a lot of them at once. many new big works were coming out as you were watching previous big ones and then you moved onto those after. now there needs to be some more time for the next one to come out. also for the animanga community, often the big “hits” mainly blow up early on when they are bringing in a lot of fans, but still remain as popular series with a lot of discussion for years. the fans never leave, it’s just that the initial hype isn’t quite the same (especially for the anime, as many fans move to the manga as the series goes on). casual fans often subsist on just a few popular series, while more dedicated fans engage in manga discussion or watch less mainstream anime. in order for a new hit to happen, it often needs to be in the vacuum left from another hit. the JJK manga has basically broken the internet in recent chapters, but the anime for that stuff hasn’t come out, meaning it isn’t as talked about in the mainstream. the rise and fall of these big hits take a while. the first chapter for AOT came out WAY back in 2009 and it’s anime came out in 2013. as they say, rome wasn’t built in a day.

Chris Sharpe

I honestly think Made in Abyss would be one of the best for you specifically

Justice Hastings

Its also my fav anime but it is hard to pitch. There is a lot of thematic overlap (talent and loneliness) with MP100, but Ping Pong has a more mature lense. I tried to find a good clip but its so hard to find something that does the show justice. https://youtu.be/jmvxkkt3SKM?si=4BUF0MfoMo-eSBg0

Jasper Wilson

No Berserk :(((

Sparker

I think it isn't popular because you can't stream it without paying extra on Amazon. Sad because it's in my top 3 shows of all time and would be so perfect for a thoughtful react.

Jasper Wilson

The good place would have so many great concepts to talk about. He'd sink his teeth into that one.

Logan Williams

Let's go YYH! Big classic and one of the best dubs oat. Underrated anime.

-Kites98

Great that someone else has actually seen it too

Sale

i hope ass class wins! and i will still be vouching for beastars until the end of time

Ayan

I actually rewatched it recently and it's still as beautiful as I remember 🥹.

Helena Flores

OPM is deep. At least a lot deeper than most give it credit for and that’s because it’s subtle. Saying it’s dull is literally what everyone that can’t see beyond the comedy and fighting aspect says. And like the guy above said, considering the only real competition is AC, this is a no brainier. It’a honestly much more criminal that AC is up there so high and might even win. It’s a good anime but nowhere near as good to be that high. Just a personal opinion of course.

Lovro

exactly

Chris Sharpe

I feel like Goodwin would love a lot of the filler on it’s own, the main problem is that the filler ACTIVELY tends to take away from the canon story by jumping in at the worst possible times and then lasting forever lol

Sunny

Completely agree, and as someone who’s watched the first hundred something episodes and then dropped it, I’d rather a reaction to the new One Piece anime remake when it comes out instead of the old one

Sunny

Yoooo I would love to see Pantheon

Sunny

I second Andor, Scavenger’s Reign, Succession, and The Bear

Sunny

You are right, I should have specified "Fate main series". It is shounen, same as BNHA, Demon Slayer and HxH (which somehow people adore) and, actually more adult-oriented than either of those. But they are not cliche.

Arakis

Considering it’s only real competition is AC, nah I’d much rather see OPM

Sunny

I'll shout out The Owl House and The Good Place again!

kingafreund

i second barry and midnight mass. some of my favorite shows ever that dont get much discussion, especially midnight mass. would love to see you discuss those!

Starky

Its actually criminal seeing OPM up there. Its fun and all, but like… wouldn‘t yall prefer something a bit deeper? I mean it‘s goodwin after all.. and opm is quite dull

enes y

Fate Series is ass, Fate/Zero thou is a 9/10. it‘s completely different and should be seen as a standalone. Also He will absolutely love f/zero because of the depth & politics. But the rest is ass, very shounen, cliche

enes y

If you search it up there are basically 0 reaction series or videos to it on youtube. Would be pioneering for sure

Sale

Gonna throw out The Legend of Vox Machina!

FreedObject

Cheers. Hope you read this. 1. I assume that "Fate/Zero" actually means "Fate series". Unless you're insure you'll like this (spoiler: you will) and watching the sequel will depend on that. 2. I'd very much like to vote for Mushoku Tensei and Made in Abyss, but since I've been clamouring about how unfinished shows should be avoided, that'd make me a hypocrite, so I won't. If it comes to a single vote difference, though, consider my +1 for these two.

Arakis

86 for sure would delve DEEP into your discussions reminiscent of AoT talks on the character/situation level. Even has the same composers as AoT!

Toidleboy

I personally assume it’s just that it’s not very known compared to some of these other animes. I never even heard of it and i watched dozens of animes and heard of more than a hundred if not hundreds. People only pick between the things they actually watched.

Lovro

You should watch ‘Paranoia Agent’ because it was great, but it hurt my head and I need you to explain it to me.

Joey Healy

One Punch Man is “overdue” in my mind because i love it so much. I think you will really love the character and the series as a whole as it’s so much more than what it portrays itself on the surface or what most casual watchers give it credit for. And i have no doubt someone like you will be able to see how much more than just a comedy&shonen it is. But regardless of what wins and what you react to, listening to your thoughts is always interesting and insightful.

Lovro

Nana has lost every single Goodwin poll….for almost three years 😭 Stay strong guys, one day (or year…or lifetime) we will win this!

Vee

Would absolutely love to see you watch Naruto at some point, even if it doesn't get picked for a while I 100% think you'd really enjoy it and you should watch it in dub whenever the time comes 🙏

Sam

These two I've seen! That reminds me I should have posted the shows I've already seen here, and also add Trigun to the list 😅 I'll do that now

Alex G

That does sound right up my alley 😂

Alex G

That's encouraging to hear, thanks. On that list I have seen True Detective season 1 and Succession, both of which I liked a lot (and the latter of which has extreme relevance to my life right now funnily enough).

Alex G

Great idea

Alex G

Omg a great idea. It's really does suck and feel so disheartening when new popular shows always win over smaller ones that have no chance of winning.

Katsuki BakuGOAT

No Black Clover 😭

Emperor Nagrom

I've been told that many times, so I decided to read the entire light novel. SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!!!! No 40 year old man should do the things this character does to children. He not only gets a minor repercussion for his actions, but he's also rewarded for his grooming at the end of the series by marrying the women he groomed. And to reiterate, no adult should ever pursue romantic relations with children, even if he has erectile dysfunction so he is physically unable to do so. Ignoring that for the parts of the story you enjoy isn't worth it. And I loved a lot of the story, but it was soured by the main character. His character growth goes a long way, yet doesn't include his pedophilic interests being targeted, or his long running goal of seducing children. The author goes out of their way to avoid that part of his character growth, so that he can still have his harem at the end. I'm hoping you are just ignoring that aspect of the show as a way to enjoy the rest of it, rather than defending what the character does.

Logan Williams

I wonder why Psycho-pass always ends up so low. Do People actually not like the anime?

Neygem

Yah I was hoping maybe he'd take a shot at it after haikyuu considering how similar they are. I'm confident that are praying will be answered one day though.

M2GZ

Yeah exactly i always used to recommend it (and Ping Pong the Animation) under his March comes in like a lion videos since these shows just hit the same spot for me

Niko

Mushoku and Dr stone have my votes for sure, these shows are bound to have some great discussions.

M2GZ

And also so short! 23eps

M2GZ

Sorry for the long-ass post. In response to your question about "Great Works"... Well, I don't really have an answer, but I think you might be on the right track with regard to bubbles, possibly your own but especially in general. Bubbles of access (so many subscription services with increasing prices) on top of bubbles of culture/taste, it's easy for an amazing show to come out and for many people to not even hear about it or bother to look into it. Honestly I think the biggest factor is that there's just *so much* content now, of all kinds, good and not-so-good, people have to pick and choose what they commit their time (and money) to, and I guess for most people it's just easier to stick to one or two services and watch whatever happens to be on there. I don't think a reduction in water cooler/event shows, though they still exist, is an indication that the overall quality of available content has decayed. I've seen a lot of people complain that "there's nothing to watch, there aren't that many good shows coming out", which is WILD to me. Same for games, too. I don't know, maybe I'm just easy to please, but I like to think it's more that I just have eclectic taste and an open mind with few taboos (and don't really care where something is hosted). The list of shows and movies I want to watch is practically endless, and it's not because I have low standards. Finding something that myself and my whole family will enjoy is still a struggle, though. As for just things that I'd class as Truly Great - not necessarily perfect, but amazingly enjoyable for one reason or another, with that feeling that you're watching something special - it's still a pretty long list. Here's just a few off the top of my head, limiting myself to things I don't see on your "already watched" list and that could possibly work for reactions: * The Leftovers I will never stop recommending this, if this show has one fan it's me (though I'm definitely not the only one). May not be to everyone's tastes, seems to be a love-it-or-hate-it kind of thing, but I think it's an astounding show and honestly I'd love to see you watch it, it's an intense character drama. * True Detective (season 1) * The Bear The most recent season (3) has some deserved criticism with regard to pacing, but it still has a couple of my favorite episodes of the show, and the series overall is still outstanding. * Shogun * Andor I'm hardly a Star Wars mega-fan, but I fuckin love this show in particular. Just really very well-written, far more gripping and genuinely impactful than most Star Wars stuff. I really hope the second season lives up to the first. * Midnight Mass Some people complain about the number and length of monologues in this show but I mostly love 'em (shocker), and the show overall. I love a lot of Mike Flanagan's stuff, but this might be my favorite. The most Stephen King-y thing I've ever seen that's not written by him or adapted from his work. Deals heavily with religion, so YMMV with regard to how it'll land for you or any given watcher. I'm not religious but was raised Catholic, so it's basically right up my alley. * Barry * Mr. Robot * Succession I haven't even seen all of this myself, I've been meaning to get back to it to finish it, but from what I have seen (and heard of) I think it qualifies as the kind of prestige, momentously popular series you were talking about. I doubt you'd ever end up reacting to it but thought it worthy of inclusion. * Chernobyl * Scavengers Reign And many, many more. I don't really expect any of these to win this sort of poll on this channel, but I'd recommend watching them regardless. That being said, The Boys isn't doing bad, so maybe the tide is starting to turn; although, despite enjoying The Boys, I don't know if it'd be my pick for this channel either. Such is life.

Xylen

He’ll definitely get around to it eventually and when he does it’ll be great dr stone has one of my favourites casts.

M2GZ

Same here I think he’d have some of the best commentary for that show

M2GZ

I would have given it a vote if season 4 wasn’t so booty

M2GZ

You most certainly have not seen Mushoku if that’s your take away

M2GZ

not sure when it’s available outside of theaters

Chris Sharpe

Comes out next month right?

M2GZ

Seems like a good idea

M2GZ

Hurts to see it do bad on polls and now longer there. I do hope he picks it up one day like he did March comes in like a lion since it’ll probably never win a poll and it’s so good 😭

M2GZ

Also even though it will take you years i think you would enjoy one piece 😄

Niko

Obligatory Run with the wind suggestion - would be totally your cup of tea

Niko

I'd die inside if Dr Stone won. It NEVER wins and it's really a shame cause since it doesn't win polls 99% of reactors just won't ever react to it and it's such a different style with the accurate scientific ideas and such.

Katsuki BakuGOAT

A popular strategy I've seen other reactors incorporate when making polls is picking a theme. It helps to narrow down the choices, gives hidden gems a better chance of winning, and provides the channel with more variety. Plus, it gives you more say in what you want to see without having to make a show selection yourself. I often see people requesting this type of polling when the same shows are frequently passed over in favor of new shows that are popular in the moment. To be clear, I don't think that's happening here, but I still think a themed poll might be nice. These are some examples I've seen in the past: - Genre (romance, comedy, horror) - Motif (Coming of age, Dystopia, Superhero) - Release Year (2000s, 2010s, 2024) - Length (10 - 13 eps, 24 - 26 eps, 100+) - Origin (anime, Western animation, donghua) Perhaps you could consider trying something like this for a future poll?

Merfhew

Same! The scientific style would be something totally different for alex. Sadly it never wins and so 99% of reactors won't react to it

Katsuki BakuGOAT

I don't care what it is. I'm sure we'll have a good time.

Perchik

oh yeah also watch the haikyuu movie when you get the opportunity

Chris Sharpe

Pleased to see Ping Pong The Animation on here! It won't win, but pleased to see it as an option nonetheless. Hopefully some day :)

Miguel

a show i think you might really like is abc’s interview with the vampire, currently 2 seasons released and fantastic character work/acting (saw severance mentioned which is also great)

armando

I voted Blue eye Samurai but honestly if a show I haven't seen yet wins it'll give me an excuse to check it out myself. Haven't really had a show to properly get into in a while.

Slim Cognito

MADE IN ABYSS BOYS LETS GOO

Goldy

I voted for Blue Eye Samurai as a shorter show that won't take too much of your time. A similar show I doubt anyone has mentioned or would even vote for is Pantheon. It was an adult animated show on AMC+ that got deleted off there after a few months and even had its episodes released out order. Then it had season 2 fully finished already but they were going to not release it. Then a year ago they released it but it's only available on Amazon Prime in New Zealand and Australia. So piracy is basically mandatory. But it's 16 episodes so like the same length as Invincible in total for the whole thing. I think it'd be interesting for you because it's very modern and focuses on concepts of AI, transhumanism and existentialism. And the animated aspect allows them to do some really crazy stuff with virtual worlds and similar aspects. As I said I doubt other people would vote for it as it's unbelievably obscure but I have no regrets saying it's one of the most amazing pieces of scifi I've ever seen.

Sale

Nah sure it’s gory but I think he would find the characters interesting

Big Fuze

Of the 3 shows I voted for, Assassination Classroom is the most likely to win, but I will pray to every god in existence that 86 comes through at some point

Nox

For a show I think you should at least watch on the side, severance is so incredibly good and it has a second season rolling out next year in January. Potential to be one of the best shows on television if it stays on track and has a plan for the mystery boxes it set up

Starky

I honestly think Mushoku Tense and Made in Abyss would make you feel uncomfortable. There's a lot of underage sexualization in both that isn't treated as a problem. Apart from that, I'd love to see more of your insight and commentary about live action shows.

Logan Williams

begging for blue lock! if you liked haikyuu i think you’d enjoy it since it’s the complete opposite but still a fun time

syd

Ping Pong the Animation is my favorite anime, it's a little niche comparatively so I'm surprised to see it get some love here. Some really good themes and interesting characters in it I think you'd have some unique insights on, apart from it just being a fun watch. There are a lot of bigger hitters in here that will probably be just as fun to get your takes on, though, so I think I'll come away happy either way

Willy

Not the boys. That’s too grotesque and kind of predictable.

Manny

As in regard for non Anime shows i'd really recommend The bear wich is probably the best comedy/drama show of all time and Shogun wich is funny enough a show about japanese history lol

Aukar frank

Holy Shit, so many good choices. Damn, i'd be happy with half the list

Qingque

My only other caution for it is: recall how long Hunter X Hunter has taken and then multiply that by 10 lol

Aidan Pullen

Live action is fine by me :D Maybe I'll include Shogun next time

Alex G

One Piece would be a big move, but typically I'm watching at least 3 shows simultaneously, so hopefully I can still strike a good balance.

Alex G

ASS CLASS SWEEP 🙏 as for new recs that aren’t on the poll, I’d suggest old classics like Cowboy Bebop and Trigun

bryn sutton

I wonder if that isn't compounded somewhat by the competition, as the goal becomes getting as MUCH content out as possible, as opposed to really honing in on "the year's project" or something

Alex G

and you still have to read Japanese sub titles so… who can complain?

bl0odm1st

Gurren Lagann is fantastic! Would also love to see the show Lost be up for consideration some day.

Buddymax15

To your one point. I think with so many internet bubbles pop culture is dying a bit. With so many shows and streaming services we are in bubbles more than ever.

Sage

Except I'll also vote for Made in Abyss, that show is near and dear to me

Aidan Pullen

Feels like Gurren Lagann would have a great chance like a decade ago but nowadays it's more of a forgotten classic, still i shall pray it wins... a genuine favourite

AryTheDog

If I'm going to be honest I really dread the day One Piece wins. I feel like that will turn into something that completely dominates the channel, and will take away from the possibility of reviewing smaller, more intimate, non-shounen media. Since I'm also a minority in this community that would like to see more wide variety, I'll cast my votes for the non-Japanese shows, and throw in my obligatory "PLEASE WATCH SCAVENGERS REIGN". Whatever wins I'm still happy to watch because I like the commentary

Aidan Pullen

To address the section about what the “great works” currently are, the immediate show that springs to mind is Shōgun. There’s a reason it won 18 Emmy’s for its first season. I know live action is a taboo here but that show is wonderful.

bl0odm1st

Where's all that bocchi love from last time? It's such a short show, it's criminal not to give it a chance 😭

Musicisum

I really am hoping for dr stone.

Sage

Hope you get to complete that journey then but we'll see

Jade

Something like that, I think a little less

Alex G

i think he said the first 7 episodes

Chris Sharpe

One Piece is probably my favorite manga, but i don’t think the anime is the best idea. don’t get me wrong, i would LOVE for you to experience the series, either as a manga, or even just binge watching in your own time. but i think the aspect of only watch a couple episodes at a time would affect the experience. Naruto i would love. based on your feelings towards MHA. if you skip filler, it has ~400 episodes compared to One Piece with ~1000. if you double up it could be pretty reasonable in terms of length (although i’m not sure if you want to watch filler). still, i understand we just got out of another long running show, so understand people not wanting to do that right away.

Chris Sharpe

Also patiently waiting to add Run With the Wind to the google doc 🏃 💨 , it’s only 1 season long lol

Avery Strasser

Thats tough, I think maybe I'll cross that bridge when and if I come to it 😁

Alex G

ass class seems like the PERFECT show for Alex to flex his experiences

Yu yu hakusho short and sweet

Xavier Goshton

Imagine not voting for Yu Yu Hakusho, Assuming its the dub, genuinely one of the 2 anime better in dub.

Robert Traeger

Yeah it's a lot to commit to! But there is a positive in there which is that it makes the future a lot more clear

Alex G

While I know multiple choice is allowed I kinda just want to vote YYH alone because it's hard for old shows to beat new or current stuff especially in this heavy anime rotation these days. YYH literally helped defined Shonen anime tropes to this day like how to do a modern tournament arc with OG dragonball. Along with having one of the best and caring dub casts at the time. (The dub director went as far to watch the show in sub completely since their were things he wouldn't have been able to do otherwise and get right for his scripting) while also putting way more character into a arguably pretty bland sub script. With a all star cast to this day early in their careers. It's also old 90s animation with plenty actual hand drawn GORGEOUS scenes that will define future animators too. Obviously it's also Togashis work right before HxH where you can see the influce of this on HxH everywhere.

Lets go one piece!!!

Aye One Piece is my favorite but it is hefty, would you consider doing Onepace or you having the whole enchilada?

Avery Strasser

You're a brave one for making One Piece an option. It'd be beyond great, but that's a 10 year journey at current episode count (at 2 episodes per week.) I'll cast my votes for Assassination classroom and Dr. Stone. I'd especially love to see your thoughts on AssClass considering your experience with teaching.

James Ancester

Honestly One Piece seems like an inevitably over time. I would love to watch it but the length is both great and terrible. It's a big commitment 😂

Alex G

I have seen the first few episodes so maybe that's why

Alex G

ONE PIECE!!!!

Ragan Michelle

Oh I don't know why but I thought you had already watched OPM lol welp I guess I know what I'm voting for

Jade

Let's Go Dr Stone! God I want to see Alex react to that show SO BAD. Also code geass is a must at some point!
