Poll Winner + New Schedule + Other Stuff

Wow! One Punch Man :D

Didn't see that coming honestly. But that's great, I've been wanting to go back and watch it since Mob. Thank you to everyone who voted!

A reminder that a lot of these shows are a must-watch for me, so I will get to them even if they didn't win this time (see: HxH, Re:Zero, Haikyuu, etc). (Feels like we are just gradually moving towards One Piece as the final destination).

New Schedule:

Notes:

That's all!

Thank you to everyone for participating! There was disturbingly little "gate" to this poll.

Three episodes of One Punch Man starting around the usual time today.

I’ve been dying for you to watch oshi no ko. I think it’s the anime you would have a lot to say about and I would love to hear your thoughts about it. It’s one of the most interesting anime I’ve seen. Maybe next time😔

AHH im dying

I liked S2 way more, the animation was still great and the story was even better

Seth

ditto on severance!

Jacob Cannon

It's a shame blue eye samurai didn't make the cut. It's only 8 episodes and I've been dying for you to react to it

Julian Walker

lol what? Read what I actually said. I think you’re confused.

FormativeGhosting

Also are you still reacting to Steins Gate:0?

Seth

I don’t recommend one piece. I watched 200 episodes and it was kinda boring/very slow paced, not to mention how many other shows you would have to sacrifice to make room for over 1000 episodes

Seth

the person in the comments who's telling you to dont watch one piece either doesn't actually like the show or has resentment towards you because they're literally denying you the best anime/tv experience of your life, also I don't get them lying about pace and saying you have to wait for the remake when the remake will only cover small part of first few arcs that are already perfectly paced in the original anime, the pace only gets questionable after 500 eps, it's literally perfect before that with some of the most memorable voice acting which you won't have in the remake, not to mention the remake won't even cover the bad paced episodes(which are in later arc) for the next 10 years, I promise you're gonna fall in love with the show and not want to stop because it's really one in a million adventure story, watch few eps and see it yourself

TN300

Yeah i’m looking forward to see his thoughts as well. And yep there’s definitely interesting things to discuss it’s just that the deeper themes are not the main focus and really easily overlooked. Thank you too for being open minded and saying you might give season 2 a chance. I suggest you do at some point when you have time. Maybe when season 3 comes out it would be a good opportunity to rewatch the entire thing.

Lovro

Hearing that actually gives me a bit of relief I know when i watched the first season a few times when way back when it came out and i was a teenager i also saw it as not much more than a light hearted fun comedy with some cool fighting. Even if you were much younger back then, the fact that you also didn’t see it as much more that what you described it as, puts me more at ease with my own perspective back then 😂😅 I hope that makes sense haha. I think it also has a lot to do with being younger and finding it harder to automatically relate with some of the bit deeper topics that are already not the main focus of the show anyway. I can’t watch the first episode with you now as you upload just a few hours before i wake up and go to work but i will watch it when i get home and i know this journey with you will be fun and make me think of things i haven’t thought before either as is always the case with you and your thoughts. I also just know already you will really like Saitama even more as the show progresses. Personally his mentality and the way he handles things and communicates with people despite his strength makes him one of my favourite mc’s if not the favourite.

Lovro

I think I would’ve thought the same thing before watching it myself. The palace invasion is a similar period in an anime where the pace seems to slow down but for whatever reason I really enjoyed that in HxH. In One Piece I sometimes had to drop the anime for periods because it was just that mindnumbing. My enjoyment of the story was hampered a lot and I still have a dislike for that arc despite the underlying story being pretty good imo. If I had to react to each individual episode I’m not sure what I’d even be able to say about them. Perhaps I’d speak about the binary choice of skipping or watching the 5 minute recap? But don’t let me be a backseat driver haha. There are people who had a lot of fun watching the same arc I just described and genuinely enjoyed a lot of the near-glacier sections of the later anime. One Piece is a fascinating labor of love that everyone should experience in the way they deem fit.

FormativeGhosting

Haha I appreciate it. 118 as a difficult stretch does sound beastly. But oddly there's also something about that that makes it more intriguing

Alex G

I have not! Yeah Psycho Pass feels like a must watch as well haha

Alex G

Having seen some of the early episodes a long time ago and starting it again now, it's interesting to see how my own perspective has changed. I think my takeaway way back when was that it was basically light hearted fun. Now Saitama's conflict is really interesting and personal to me 😂

Alex G

It's funny that there seems to be something like a Mandela effect for me and OPM 😂

Alex G

I will say on One Piece, while I love it with my whole heart and genuinely think it’s a modern odyssey, there are sections of the anime that I feel are practically unwatchable in a reaction format. In particular there’s an arc that spans 118 episodes(around twice the length of chimera ant) about halfway through the anime that is borderline unwatchable due to its pacing. I’m not joking when I say there are episodes with practically NO plot progression other than drawn out shots of characters staring or walking because that’s how bad the pacing gets. Imagine the palace invasion except the first 5 minutes of each episode have to be stretched to 20. So I’d strongly recommend either waiting for the remake or going the One Pace route. Pace isn’t perfect by any means but it does make the sections like what I mentioned watchable. It’s all up to you of course but as someone who caught up to the anime a couple years back I feel like I have to warn you lol.

FormativeGhosting

@Lovro -- Maybe I'll give S2 a chance then. Thanks! And the more I thought about it, the more I realized that OPM does have some interesting things to discuss, as you brought up. I'll be curious to see his thoughts when he gets further into the season.

Merfhew

really hoping for dr stone too

M2GZ

A focused genre poll is a great idea for variety!

Bells

Thanks for your comment. I understand your perspective and i do have a couple of things to say here. First, season 2 is quite noticeably different than season 1 indeed. It focuses more on the world of the show, other characters aside from Genos and Saitama and has a bigger story that ultimately stretches far beyond the end of season 2 well into the manga territory. The reason 95% of people that say season 2 is awful or something along those lines say that comes down to a few reasons which i can tell you but are unfounded in my mind. Or at the very least they are extremely exaggerated. By far the main reason is the animation. Season 1 had some of the greatest animation ever produced in any anime so when season 2 had only mediocre and on some parts even good animation, many called it trash because it’s still a very noticeable drop from season 1. So people say the animation is “trash” because they compare it to season 1. But in truth the animation is far from being too bad to watch and considering the studio that did season 2 unfortunately only had 6 months compared to the first season which took years, i would say they really don’t deserve all the crap they get. But people are ungrateful. My honest advice is don’t listen to them and go watch it and decide for yourself. I never fell as deeply into OPM until i watched season 2 and got into the manga. The two others smaller reasons that people say season 2 is awful is because some don’t like Saitama being less focused on than in season 1 and because the season doesn’t end with a big bad strongest opponent so far like season 1 does. It is more of a prelude to everything that will come in seasons 3 and 4 or maybe 3 alone if it has 24 episodes instead of 12. Now as far as season 1 goes l, i will say this. It is hard to notice all the themes of the show by that season alone. But even season 1 by itself actually explores different things than just comedy. There’s philosophical questions, social commentary, symbolism hidden in plain sight, a weird world with weird an quirky characters, interesting character interactions and yeah then there’s comedy and fighting. Both of which are actually also done quite well. Not in the sense that they are complex but in other ways which i could go into if you want me to but this is already long. I don’t think OPM is the deepest thing ever but it explores much more topics than most people give it credit for or ever see because the show does an excellent job of rarely taking itself seriously like you said and it is predominantly comedy and fighting which very quickly gives you an idea that’s all that there is to it so you focus even less on things that are already subtle and can be hard to notice.

Lovro

You probably answered this before, but have you seen Severance? Just watched it and I think you'd like really it. Also is psycho pass part of your legacy recommendations??

ODIS

@Lovro -- I've only watched the first season, as multiple people told me the second season is awful, but from what I recall, One Punch Man is just a comedy that rarely takes itself seriously. I don't mean to say that's a bad thing, because I love comedies, but I don't think OPM is very deep. I've watched S1 three times, and I enjoy myself every time, but I don't know what there is to talk about (unless S2 drastically changed the status quo).

Merfhew

Except it’s much more than a full blown comedy and there can be a lot to talk about.

Lovro

Oh man, i’ve been waiting for this ever since i found you when you were first watching AOT. Can’t wait to see your thoughts on everything this series involves. It never gets old to me despite the fact i’ve watched it dozens of times. Some things in it are just so real and genuine with a certain vibe that makes me feel different than any other anime for some reason. It’s hard to describe why, even vaguely without spoiling when you haven’t seen anything about it yet. It’s both the specific anime and you being who you are that makes me so excited for this. Also can’t wait for all the people that say this anime is dull or boring, to hear your thoughts about it 🙃 I personally think it is better than Mob Psycho but i like both for different reasons as they are better in different areas.

Lovro

A full blown comedy is fine too, even if there's so little to talk about.

Arakis

Nice👍

Big Fuze

Not sure how u made sense of my comment with that crazy typo. but yeah man nothing plots always end up annoying me more than anything but this fanbase in particular has always pulled some bangers for you to react to

Goldy

It hadn't occurred to me that you hadn't already reacted to OPM. I guess my memory was getting Mob bleedover. Anyway yea this is definitely the one.

Rekway

Yeah that makes sense, it's like trying to run a second mile at the same pace as the first, when you're already spent.

Sam B

Yeah that is the major downside. The main reason I think 2 works better is that an hour long episode is way more than 2x as fatiguing than two, 30 minute episodes.

Alex G

Yeah I'm not a huge fan of that either. I haven't been able to get through a lot of the Korean dramas that have been recommended to me for that reason (among others). I think that with any media there's gotta be some other meat on the bone aside from just its synopsis and genre devices. Looking at shounen even, I also don't enjoy fighting that much if that's all there is to the show. For romance, I really liked Fruits Basket because it had the romance plot but also a whole lot more. In the category of "non-shounen" there are also things like March Comes in Like a Lion, which doesn't really have much of a romance at all if any. So there's a lot of ways to go

Alex G

I've seen someone bring up Chernobyl, if you haven't seen that. It's a pretty incredible show.

Aidan Pullen

Looking forward to Arcane as well :)

Alex G

I also would like to do non-animation, even non-fiction. The issue is there are no clear contenders for me! It's been a while since I took an interest in, or even watched something that wasn't channel related.

Alex G

Ah man, it makes sense to break up the Re Zero eps, but I also am impatient as hell lol. I'd prefer a full release and then nothing for one of the days. I do understand whichever way though!

Sam B

That would be awesome

Goldy

I mean I'm cool with not should but fuck I don't think I'd enjoy you watching romcons where the plot is constantly will they won't they for the whole damn show. (Btw I love romcons just most of them are the same concept with different characters imo)

Goldy

Looking forward to quite a few things. DANDADAN, Arcane s2 and one punch man will give me the excuse to finally watch s2

Slim Cognito

I am always a proponent of variety and would love if there were more genres to pick from, perhaps even some non-anination one day? I know l, wishful thinking, but I love hearing your thoughts on non-shounen material more, sue me

Aidan Pullen

I loklve the idea of multiple genres, I advocate for some nice romance hahah and yea I hope you also could do Dan da dan I also hear that it will be great. :)

Marko

Hopefully we get Dr Stone after OPM

Katsuki BakuGOAT

There's plenty to watch in the meantime so that might be what ends up happening

Alex G

I seriously LOVE one piece, but maybe you should wait for the remake lol

RichiPete

Not sure if it will directly follow OPM but that's definitely on the "must watch eventually" list. That's a legacy recommendation

Alex G

🔥

Alter Nate

Will ass class maybe potentially hopefully be after OPM ?
