It's such a complicated landscape to navigate when you have the original manga, the sub, and the dub, where at any point any of the above 3 can add something that works especially well. There is definitely something to the idea that the source should be honored, but then we also seems to enjoy it when the anime resolves or improves things from the original text. Looking at it positively, having a different interpretation of a specific moment in one version doesn't detract from any other version necessarily. Personally I'd say that the whole is more important, since perfect adaptations in all ways are going to be impossible. But that's also very particular to what I want out of the experience ๐

2024-10-24 01:40:37 +0000 UTCSo in the sub script he says "your so ugly" while the dub said "you bitch" The manga said "You skank" From what's been seen the dub tends to be closer to the manga word wise or its meaning is closer. Your so ugly could mean appearance more so than personality in English. But the manga and dub both choose a single word insult to a woman instead. The meaning gets across easier and the sub comes off more censored because of it.
