Beating art block with Frost

Like most people I'm back to work tomorrow; the problem is, I haven't drawn anything successfully since the christmas pinup, and it's been getting to me.  Yes, drawing is work, and yes I do need a break from it occasionally, but I do still LOVE drawing and it's one of my favourite hobbies, so not being able to do it sucks.

Anyway, with nothing new coming out well, and digging into unfinished projects being unsuccessful too, I decided I'd have a go at redrawing one of my oldest HRB pinups - Emma Frost.  It's a proper oldie, and I think only one of you guys was following me at the time (thanks for sticking around my dude 🫶)

It was based on a photo of a popular cosplayer at the time, Anna Faith, she'd done a shoot of a more vintage looking Emma Frost, kind of Victorian boudoir sort of thing.  It inspired me and I thought I'd have a go at drawing it.  It wasn't an attempt at a likeness, and frankly looking at it now you can see my total lack of confidence in almost every aspect of it.  Shaky pose, awful face, lumpy hair, over compensating for all the problems with flashy effects etc etc etc

So, the bar was pretty low, I felt like I could clear it pretty easy, even with art block.  As you'll see in the sketches attached, that wasn't quite the case initially lol.  But, I found my footing with the piece, dumped the vintage look and took it in a more modern direction based on some of the newer designs I've seen on the net lately.  I don't really read superhero comics these days, but I do follow a lot of the artists so I had an idea of what she looked like now.

I went for a one piece bodysuit, big thigh high boots and a cutoff jacket, all in shades of white.  I did decide to keep the crazy lighting effects, but this time I knew I was going to use them, so I made sure the initial lighting was darker and allowed it all to pop nicely instead of all fighting for your eye's attention.
