Inspirations:

The poppy symbolizes sleep, please, love, blood, life, but also death. In Slavic culture, it connects two worlds - life and death, it allows you to travel between them, it is a symbol of resurrection. The vampire is dead, but he can "walk after death," so he is resurrected. In the 17th and 18th centuries, such thinking disturbed the clergy (especially the Jesuits who were vampire specialists) because it meant that they were saints because they walked before the resurrection of the dead, which was supposed to involve everyone at the end of the world. The bodies of the vampires did not decompose, which could be seen in either the saints (if the body lay straight) or the damned (whose bodies were warped as in Hans Memling's "The Last Judgment" painting, link to the painting on the museum's website: http://www.mng.gda.pl/tryptyk/ ). Poppy seeds were also supposed to protect against vampires, they were thrown into the coffin of a suspect of vampirism. The vampire was supposed to count them after death. There can be 2,500 seeds in one poppy, so it is a difficult task. The vampire had to count all the seeds in one night.
