I thought someone had found out what you were and I was checking to see if black SUVs were following you. But when I saw nothing after you came inside the house, I was about to say hello when you ran straight past me and then all I heard was your door slam. Did something happen today? Did a male human make you uncomfortable at practice today? Do I need to remind him that no means no? [brief pause] Oh okay well, honey, it’s kind of hard to talk to you through the door, can I please come inside? Okay, *door opens* Hey...sweetheart. Oh my gosh, you’re crying! What’s going on? [brief pause] Well, uhhh did you see one of your human girl friends hang out with one of your enemies? They went above and beyond for your birthday that one year when all three of them pitched in and took ALL of us to that nighttime amusement park with those passes AND to that fancy restaurant after. Remember that was the year your little brother, somehow, got sick on the Ferris Wheel? They didn’t even question why you couldn’t go out in the sun, they just did it. Haha. And uhh, I like my human female boss and co-workers. Hell, I even like your younger brother’s little human girlfriend he has..uhh Chanel right? Her mother even shared some delicious recipes with your mother and I. Granted we only eat human food to fit in, but they haven’t even been together for no more than a year. And then both of you said, “Hurricane Katrina, more like Hurricane Tortilla” and laughed like hyenas. I just thought my daughter was having fun with one of her best friends. I will be honest, I thought you were trying to turn her and I was scared so that initial gasp you heard wasn’t because I thought, “oh my gosh my daughter is gay”. Wait….that didn’t have anything to do with all this right? Because if so, I’m so sorry. I love you just the way you are. [brief pause]

Well of course, sweetie. Why wouldn’t I? [pause] Oh because of what your mother and I said to Ms. Eliza? Ohhhh wait, I think I remember. It was around two Christmases ago and she, your mother, and I were in the garage after everyone had gone home? And then you heard all the commotion and crashing and I yelled at you to go back in the house now? Your mother said, we hate your kind so don’t ever bring your curse around any of us? Ms. Eliza was about to throw a bottle filled with some dark red syrup on me and I don’t think it was human blood. When the bottle got knocked out the scent smelled like holy water but more...deadly. Your mother saved my life. So, I promise you, I, along with your mother, have nothing against people who choose your type of lifestyle. And I promise you, we will still love you the same. [pause] Well I know your mother and I say we want grandchildren, but that doesn’t mean it has to happen uhhmm *ahem* naturally. If you and Rose adopt a child or children together, we will treat them just the same as if your little brother and Chanel had one naturally. [pause] Of course I mean that!
