_.. TINY PIXEL RESCUE WORKSHOP : . __
with your friendly neighbourhood pixelartist @castpixel
We know a lot more about pixelart nowadays, thanks to the amazing work done on Pixeljoint.com and Pixelation by dedicated and talented pixel artists. Modern pixelart takes pixel clusters into account. Pixel clusters are shapes comprised of 2 or more pixels of the same colour. The way we place pixels to make pixel clusters can make or break pixel art, especially in small sprites (where it matters most). Modern pixelart, and pixelart that strives to be good, also takes into account “banding” clusters, that is 1-pixel thick pixel clusters that match exactly in length and position, either directly next to each other, or 1-pixel thickness apart.
Would you be interested in a streaming workshop where we discuss these concepts and draw over pixel art to learn more about the latest techniques? How to avoid banding, how to eliminate single pixels? If so then please:
- send some of your pixelart (preferably at 1:1 size please, and no no jpgs) either as a comment or tweet @castpixel
- suggest a day and time of day when you’d like the stream to run
knowledge should be free, and community is important, so I want it to be a free event
In this example, courtesy of @jonasvanman , I did the following:
strengthened character design
eliminated “banding” clusters
eliminated single pixel clusters
