There is a consequence to rushing things. In my attempt to always try to fit each new set within the month, I forgot something very fundamental about drawing this sort of style. If the original drawing is crap. No amount of ink work and and coloring will fix your foundational flaws.
Case in point, this was the first scene of the up coming FE Dragons set.
I went as far as doing the line work and putting in the base colors. But something just felt really off about this. Things felt flat and... Well, boring. No matter how long I stared at it, it just doesn't look good.
So, I made the painful decision of starting over again. A few more sketches later and...
Well look at that. Sure, it's "showing less". But every character takes up more of the scenery. There is more sense of movement and the composition is more balanced. Every beginning artist always run into that frustrating moment when you feel like your work just doesn't cut it. Rather than giving up.... Sometimes you just need to take a break, then reevaluate and start from scratch. It's a lot of work, but you may end up with something way better than before :)
Anyway.... This is my long winded way of saying.... Uuuh this set is still gonna take me a while :(.
In the meantime, here's some more teaser line work ;)
