Why I am paying attention to Hong Kong

I usually leave politics out of what I draw. However, what has transpired in Hong Kong over the last few weeks is something I think the world needs to pay more attention to. And this is the only avenue that I have where I can get many eyeballs looking.

Yesterday, the Anti-Extradition Demonstrators held another protest in front of the China Central Government adminstrative building. Protesters pelted eggs and other objects at the building, while drawing graffiti with messages like "You taught us peaceful marches are useless." The police, retaliated with tear gas and rubber bullets.

But this isn't the interesting part of the night. On the other side of Hong Kong. Yuen Long, a district far away from the administrative building, had its MTR station overrun by thugs in white shirts. Wielding sticks and throwing objects, they attacked anyone with a black shirt on, something that the demonstraters were wearing. Bystanders and journalists were also attacked, while the targeted individuals defended themselves with umbrellas. The situation lasted for an hour before the police finally came. At this point, the thugs had already retreated.

You can see footage here, from one of the journalists at the scene.

At around the 7:45 mark, the thugs attacked the filming journalist directly and started crowding around her.

Later the same night, a pro-CCP legislator, Junius Ho Kwan-Yiu, shook hands with people in white shirts, masks and sticks, congratulating them on a job well done:

This is the same law maker who had previously stated that all Hong Kong Independence demonstraters should be "killed mercilessly".

I draw very questionable and offensive things. My works have glorified and sexualized violence. But no matter what you think of my content, it is all within the realm of fantasy. Both as porn and parody. This is real violence against real people whose only crime is having a different opinion to an oppressive government. Thanks to the free press that still exists in Hong Kong, we get a good look at just how scummy the leaders of that region can be.

If you value the freedom of expression in any form, whether that be through speech, art or any media, keep an eye on the events in Hong Kong. The young people there are fighting desperately for whatever freedom they have left. They are fighting against a dismal future that is slowly approaching. The results of these events will reflect on what freedom of expression will become in the near future.

Add Oil, Hong Kongers.

P.S: I probably will not do stuff like this often. So, will be back to more smut and violence soon :)

Edit: RTHK, a channel owned by the HK government, made a very good summary video of the entire event in Yuen Long. Unfortunately it's in Cantonese with Chinese subtitles...

Now I'm in HK. the point is: the core protestor just wanted to mess up HK. What they really want is 'fight with China'. To achieve this purpose, they can do anything Including killing people who don't agree with them to scare others not to oppose them. And fake news or biased news was used as weapon. I believe you are attacked by this fake news weapon. The truth is much more complicated. Did you know Twitter and Facebook will delete messages, pictures and videos that recorded the violent actions of protectors?

Thank you for stand Hong Kong. Thank you very much! I think most chinese never understand Why do Hong Kong people resist.

After about four months I heard there was a protest in Hong Kong, it finally became a mess. With similar purpose, to create a evil image, someone began to scatter information about those balck shirts' organized violent actions. At that time, I already knew that there would be only a violent mess at the end of the protest. From a conversation with one of my firend who knows a peaceful protester. Those crimes are even claiming those peaceful protester are traitors. Who are the traitors? Before this happen, months ago, polices drove those peaceful protester, but did and were able to do nothing with the crimes. Those polices, as I (a Chinese) know, they should protect the peaceful protestor to avoid crimes' violence. (both black shirts and white shirts) Another funny information was those white shirts were organized because they heard the black shirts would ruined their home, shop and community. See, they were just some people tried to protect their own home, at the beginning at least.

It will be fine. “事后的泪,都是此时脑里进的水”

Personally, I hope the government will respond to and resolve the demands of the demonstrators, provided that order in Hong Kong is restored. But the demonstrators can't kidnap the social order and demand too much. Restoring order and guaranteeing it, and all things can be negotiated peacefully

I should like to thank you for your concern about this matter. I oppose violence, whether it's demonstrators or white-clothed people. It's not good to control violence with violence. But the occurrence of any situation must have its reasons

The only reason I decided to post this time it's because what the White T's did that night crossed the line for me. The indiscriminate attack on everyone that happened to be in that station was unnecessary and simply created more fear and chaos. I know this topic is controversial. I know what sort of comments I will have to face. But I decided to not let fear stop my own views from being heard. I have already said my piece. I welcome any more thoughts on the matter, and I do not intend to escalate any debates on this any further.

veiled616

Thanks for the thoughts Andrew. I have seen Nathan Rich's video, and I do appreciate his thoughts. But a lot of the times, he seems to skim over certain details and quite biased at times. I have seen footage, news and comments from both sides and from what I have gathered so far, my opinion has yet to be swayed. I think we can both agree that the bits and pieces from the media on either channel are not enough to completely fit the entire picture. Let time tell where history shall go.

veiled616

I know maybe the internet is the last place for arguing politics as it is rare anyone changes their mind, but if there is a possibility that you wish to look at this from another perspective, I’d suggest Nathan rich’s channel on youtube. I have a friend of mine whose living in hongkong for the past ten years, and is in active support of the counter-protestors. Goes to show that locals feel different about this issue than perhaps media outlets. Speaking personally, I think that comparing cherry-picked examples with evidence of buildings and infrastructure is unfair, and if you could understand why the protesters have done such an action, it would only be fitting for you to understand why people have genuine hate for those that disturb their normal life. Then again, it must’ve taken great courage to post about such a controversial topic, and to be fair, pixiv is more about the art.

ADFLJH

And for the record. I don’t agree with the vandalism on the China administrative building by the black shirts. But I understand why they felt the need to do it.

veiled616

Agreed. This is a build up of frustration throughout the decade by an HK leadership that acted in an arrogant manner. There was an attempt at a peaceful talk, but it was the HK government that refused it. I can only hope this situation does not escalate any further.

veiled616

I’ve seen some of it but I can always go and check again. I appreciate some of the discussions that want a peaceful solution. But a lot of it are making the white shirts heroes. Or trying to tie the US to this in some conspiracy theory. None of it I have seen so far seems to truly understand why Hong Kongers are mad in the first place.

veiled616

Yeah. I have seen that gif. It doesn’t really indicate when it happened. And if a black shirt did instigate the incident. So be it. It is still something that is discouraged and you can see the other guy pulling him away to stop him. This doesn’t take away the fact that the white shirts indiscriminately went after everyone.

veiled616

in fact, i don't want to see any fight in HK,because fight always hirt normal people, why they can't just sit down and talk

and i got some information that some HK young people think if they make more chaos,PLA will come to HK and squelch them, so the U.S. Army will join them to fight PLA,and they want HK became a country or join USA, maybe it's not truse, but i'm afraid some people really think about it. In chinese social media"weibo"you can find a lot of information that is very different about twitter, maybe you want to go there and see what they say.

https://twitter.com/btkangren_jack/status/1153561938330152961 I find a interesting GIF, looks like the black shirt guy wants to make more chaos, and people from YuanLang was been provocative, and they don't want those people who make go into yuanlang,so that's how fight start

The main concern with the extradition bill is the distrust in China’s justice system and how it’s views on free speech is different from what Hong Kong is used to. The way that Carrie framed the bill seemed open for abuse as well. And makes no guarantee that the extradited person will be tried fairly. But this may all mean that Carrie just did not do a good job making the bill as benign as what you are trying to outline.

veiled616

I agree that there is someone that’s trying to rile up chaos in Hong Kong. But we can only speculate so much.

veiled616

I use a lot chinese,if you don't understand what i'm talk about, please tell me ,i will try to translate it to english.

Thank you

God that is terrible, I'll spread the word.

I guess I am just upset after having seen all the footage this morning. I still have relatives in HK afterall.

veiled616

Thanks, Addition. I'm doing fine. It's the young people of Hong Kong that I am worried about.

veiled616

That really sucks, hope you are doing well.
