General Statement regarding the Fanart and Sequence Poll
Added 2021-06-09 15:48:13 +0000 UTCEdit: Added a few points ^^
I receive more and more comments each month that state that they are sad/not happy that their suggestion didn't win the poll.
So I think I address it now before obsessing over it and killing my productivity.
Sorry 'bout that in the first place but it's a poll where the community favorites win the race.
First of all, ask yourself the question:
- Most important one of all: To whom are you subscribing? I am an artist who draws a lot of RWBY, My Hero Academia, Fairly Oddparents and sometimes Wakfu stuff, some sub series: Naruto, Avatar and Legend of Zelda. People who enjoy these drawings become my subscribers and therefore could suggest and vote for similar content.
- Is the TF idea interesting?
- Did I overexplain everything which makes it hard to understand and less likely to get voted, or the opposite where nothing is explained and is too vague to get voted
- Am I suggesting a niche/already long-existing character? Characters that are from older anime/cartoons aren't that popular anymore, that's just how it is. That doesn't mean that they don't have a right to get suggested, but most people enjoy TFs of characters they grew up with or know to some extend. ^^
- Is the winning suggestion a continuation of a series of fanarts that a lot of people liked? If yes it's normal that those are pretty popular, but series have to end eventually, right?
Only big franchises win the polls!
Yeah, but that's the thing with big franchises. A lot of people like them which causes more people to vote for these suggestions. But there could be more to it: Sometimes the ideas based on the characters of that franchise are more thought out, sound more interesting or the transformation theme aligns with what a lot of people on here like. Or they could follow a current trend lol
Why don't you just ban big franchises from the poll (every second month or smth)?
Because all people pay money to suggest ideas (and vote for them) and if they are a huge fan of a franchise why should I deny their suggestion?
Why don't you pick the winner randomly so everyone gets the same chance?
Because it would take the freedom to vote for what you like. It cripples community engagement. It's a part of the Poll and Sequence Tier. Another point is that I once made a poll where people were against the idea of a randomly picked winner.
I have this reoccuring idea to shake things up a little but I think I just don't have the time to follow through with it:
Drawing the last place of the poll. Keeps it interesting till the last minute. I thought about just doing a cleaned up sketch, sounds easy right? But with additional 10 sketches a month, a fully fledged Fanart and Sequence and Comic pages and Single images + talking to the winners to figure out how I visualize all of the monthly content just...feels like too much stuff at the same time.
There are people who are happy no matter if they win or lose, but I get that some people get frustrated after 2-5 attempts.
In short: I don't know what to do about it, it's like I stated it: The community favorites get drawn, I can't change other people's likings.
Maybe I'm taking stuff too personally again lol
Comments
Yeah, giant walls of text are intimidating, sometimes when you post sketch suggestions you also post huge walls of text describing changes etc. It's a bit hard to gain the upper hand and pick out all the necessary information. Nevertheless I like reading fledged out TF ideas so I can't really complain ^^

2021-06-11 09:28:34 +0000 UTCI highly doubt that there will be 10 RWBY suggestions ever but yeah, I know you aren't complaining I just made it a general post to address my thoughts on that matter and that I sometimes just can't help myself and take stuff too personally.

2021-06-11 09:26:47 +0000 UTCI already got feedback about my last suggestion and I know what I'll have to do to make it possibly more interesting.

2021-06-10 00:43:17 +0000 UTCI honestly think you're doing the right thing when it comes to your logic for what goes on. Its hard to limit anything because you're right they pay monthly for the right to suggest something to the poll so taking that away from them is not fair, I would say having multiple suggestions from the same franchise might be a good idea to moderate per poll. As in if 10 people suggest something RWBY there shouldn't be 20 options for RWBY because thats pretty much just stacking the deck. Most people won't bother reading all the suggestions especially if they are all somewhat the same. At the same time I can understand what the people request is always slightly different from each other so even if there are 20 RWBY suggestions they are all slightly different from each other. Whenever mine doesn't win I'm bummed it didn't but I don't complain about it, I might voice it but its more of in an "awe shucks" mindset rather than actually expecting the artist to do something about it. Next time I'll just have to try to come up with an idea that everyone else likes just as much as I do.

2021-06-10 00:42:53 +0000 UTCOh ok I guess if my owl house suggestion doesn't win this month I'll just have to suggest it next month though I feel like owl house is a popular show maybe it will get more attention since season 2 is coming soon.

2021-06-09 17:45:04 +0000 UTCIs there anyway to get fanart made that didn't win the poll?
