Sneak Peek Sundays #6

This time I'm sharing the pin-up inks from The Annihilator's Origin Card, again by artist Gabriel Mayorga. The Origin card pin-ups show early uses of a character's powers. Before The Annihilator became the notorious super-villain we've all grown to love, he got his start as a young man working enforcement for the Mob. Here we see him easily handling some bodyguards while shaking this guy down. The Annihilator is in his twenties here, so when this is colored, there will be no grey hair. Hmmm. I wonder when he decided to grow the beard? I hope you enjoyed this sneak peek. It's up a bit late because I have TYP penciler Adam DeKraker and colorist Veronica Gandini in town this weekend to sign a whole lotta copies of TYP V1 for the Kickstarter, and Adam and I just spent the whole night talking shop. It's been lots of fun having them here and especially with hosting Adam in my apartment. It's really the first time we've had a chance to get to know each other "outside of work" and it turns out we have tons in common. Now that the signing is done, Adam and I have been talking for hours about our favorite TV shows, future ideas for The Young Protectors, what makes for good art, family stuff, career stuff, life stuff, really the whole spectrum. I feel like I did when I was a teenager, staying up all night playing D&D and having hours-long geeky conversations with my best friends. It's been an amazing amount of fun and has me fired up to create even more awesome stuff for The Young Protectors. :) More soon!

Comments

True. And while I no longer have time for tabletop gaming, I do enjoy the late night geek conversation myself. It's just that when I was a teenager, it was at least a weekly event. Now it mostly happens on vacation. :)

Even back then, he was well-dressed on the job! I can totally imagine him finishing up "at work" and then going straight to a high-dollar club of some kind to relax and chat up anybody who caught his eye. Oh...and I'm 32 and STILL have late-night geeky conversations with friends and a weekly tabletop gaming night! It doesn't have to end just because one isn't a teenager anymore, though one does have to take work schedules into account. ;-)

Kabbalist

I think your simple reasons are awesome reasons, Nadin. And you'll find out the answer to your questions once this is colored! :)

Alex Woolfson

That smug little smirk!

stickfigurefairytales

it's nice to see him younger! I wonder which colour his hair has? He has blue eyes but somehow I imagine him either dark blond to brown... can't say why though ^^ expression evilish confident as we know him mostly from the prologue and chapter one! suits him :) so does the suit xD did I mention that I really love suits? And uniforms... hm... maybe I have actually really simple reasons for loving this comic, too... xD

Nadin Brokop

Not always. :)

Alex Woolfson

I guess he was always the dapper sort! :)

Admiral Jane

Thank you, Dom! :)

Alex Woolfson

Yep, he's definitely enjoying himself here. :) Really glad you like it, Chris. And we were having so much fun, I'm glad to report that signing 2600 books was completely painless! :)

Alex Woolfson

I like this a lot. Reminds me of someone I know.

I hope you have hand masseuses in for you guys in case of signing cramps. LOL. I think this pin-up clearly shows that Duncan enjoys being the bad guy... he just perfected his style as he grew into it. Super fun image. Thanks Alex and compliments to Gabriel Mayorga!
