i think a question i was intending to ask, once i replaced my dying computer, is coming into focus. the big down for laptops is a hardwired keyboard. about half of mine is out currently. i wondered what it is that you do. do you come up with a whole story arc or do you think in panels? also, i have an idea for another reward. ell us you will begin to map out artifice 2. i want my deacon (wentworth) back.

I guess the chemistry between both of your expectations works splendidly then :) a big pro for this comic :D

Glad you found this interesting, Martin! Thank you! :)

Alex Woolfson

You're very welcome, Chris! Glad you like it! :)

As Adam and I have developed our working style, the thumbnails have gotten more detailed. The goal of thumbnails is to make sure we make any big changes when it's easy, than after he's put in hours of work on the pencils. So, things like camera angle, where the panels are on the page, how the main action flows from panel to panel are all things I check to make sure it's working with what I had in mind when I wrote the script (or, as can often happen, if Adam came up with an even better idea.) But one reason the thumbs are so detailed is that I want to be able to check the "acting" of the characters. That's super important to me, so I want to make sure that what I wrote in the script was clear and that we get it right from the start (or that I give more clarification, if it's not quite right.) One of the great pleasures of working with Adam is that he cares as much about the subtleties of acting as I do -- which allows me to come write some especially realistic and nuanced interactions with our characters, because I know he'll be able to nail it. :)

Thank you very much for your kind words, Chris. And, in truth, with my filmmaking background, I do think of myself as a writer/director (and often producer) for these comics. One who has the pleasure and honor to work with the most brilliant actors, directors of photography, production designers, and special effects team in the world. :D But "editor" seems to be the closest equivalent in the comics world and it's what the artists I work with tend to call me. It works too. :)

Alex Woolfson

oh wow! I don't know what I expected but somehow this is already kinda detailed when it is obviously not (do I even make sense? xD) It's like the actual "content for each panel" is decided and afterwards just the presentation, angle, focus and the like get discussed, is that right? very interesting indeed :D

I'm totally amazed, both by the detail adam puts into a "sketch" and by the great decisions you both made between this ant the final thing, like how spooky seems to be done with tumbling in the final and may take a few more rolls in the thubnails - or how Tsunami is no longer from behind (as in totally unprofessional by allowing to get Sircea behind him). That frontal hit means he's just a little off-guard. Though the effect is the same, it just feels better.

As just a reader, getting a peak behind the red curtain, seeing it come together, is definitely magic.

You can say editor, I say director. Not to make your head explode but you participate in every phase. That IS the classic writer/director. That you are smart enough to be led by great artists just makes you a really GOOD writer/director. LOL. Thanks AW.

Chris Dangerfield

Okay, I agree. Seeing this evolution is going to be super cool. Thanks to you and Adam for sharing. Great!!!

Chris Dangerfield

I'm glad you like it. That's one thing I really enjoy about my role as "editor" -- getting to see the magic happen and my script pages being turned into beautiful art, step-by-step. :)

Alex Woolfson

That's pretty dang cool!
