Yay! I'm glad to hear that, Nadin! :)

Totally. After three years, I was a bit nervous. We work so well together, what if we didn't get along in person? But got on like a house on fire. I feel like I have two new best friends now. I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised, since our visions are so close. But it was definitely a huge treat after three years of working on this comic together. :)

Awesome. Thank you for the detailed reply. As much as I/we know 'on the surface' of how the pages are done, it's still so interesting to get the deeper process. I really like yhat you're giving us the steps from script to final page now :) Oh wow, it's been three years already. I'd kinda forgotten that. They've gone by so fast with pages that it doesn't feel so long. Now I'm even happier for you guys, and that you finally got to meet last month :D

It's so interesting to already see differences between this and the script :D and then the evolution from this to the final page :) I'm really glad we reached those milestone goals!

In general, I'm a pretty involved "editor". We usually go through two rounds of revisions at each stage (thumbs, pencils, colors), with me sending notes that prompt the next pass (if necessary) until I approve that stage. But as Adam and I have worked longer together, there are definitely a lot fewer notes from me. Part of it is definitely Adam learning what I like, but it's also me learning where his strengths are. I have two goals for my notes: to make the story as clear and compelling as it can be, and to bring out the best in my artist's work. After three years of us working together, I've gotten a lot more comfortable with giving Adam a lot of room to realize what I'm hoping to achieve. In the case of this thumbnail page, my main note was that I wanted Kyle's flame attack to seem a lot more powerful. So that came from me. But making it look like a pitchfork when we got to the pencils came from him—and I dug it, so I was happy to give his choice there a thumbs up. The change in angle between thumbs and pencils in that last panel came from him due to continuity concerns with the action on this and the next page. But making the attack do real damage to her came from me, when I realized that that was what the story needed here. As you can see, there's a lot of give and take. A real collaboration. In the beginning, I held the reins more tightly. But after three years, I've learned to really trust his instincts. I still give my fair share of notes, but now I get to focus mostly on subtle acting and story beats, the things that rely on my knowledge of where the story is going and who I know these guys to be. And really, that's the most fun place for me to put my focus. Working with Adam and Vero on these pages is an absolute pleasure. And after three years, our process has gotten very smooth. :)

I'm not sure, but it sure is interesting to see. I'd have to compare the camera angles. Cool stuff.

So interesting to see the differences between the final thumbnails and the final page. I usually think the final edits give the pages that extra last 'umpf' :) How much of the final changes are your last directions about edits, and how much is Adam's own doing.. give or take, in general? Like, on this page more fire was added (cool detail making it look like a pitchfork) + we get a clearly different angle in the last panel between this and finished page. I'm sure you're part of the changes, but how 'free hands' do Adam have from your notes/final thumbnail approval? Do you feel like it has changed along the way, since he's gotten more into knowing how you like things?

DanishWolf

You're welcome, Chris! :)

I actually like the last panel of this version better.

OH YIKES and I thought this was going to be a good thing. (KIDDING). Thanks Adam and Alex. This is exciting stuff.
