WONDERFUL WEDNESDAYS #16

FLYBOY ORIGIN CARD

Thanks to hitting the $2500/month Milestone Goal, I've been posting up Digital Kickstarter Rewards for $5+ Patrons to enjoy. And here's your latest reward!

This is piece is by painter Rudy Faber who did the Commander Origin Card Art and it's one of my favorites. It's Flyboy performing his very first rescue in front of law enforcement and the victim's parents. Again, I love the "storybook" feel that Rudy gives to the art featuring the characters when they were very young, and I think it just does a beautiful job capturing the magic of this moment.

Here's a fun fact: when we were originally working on this, I had asked for Flyboy's parents to also be included looking on. But having so much in the background was overwhelming Flyboy and not letting him be the "star" of the art. Adam DeKraker suggested cropping things in and it just made everything pop and fall into place. So, alas, we don't get to meet Flyboy's parents yet, but it was a great call on Adam's part. And we might very well meet Mitch's Mom and Dad someday; they are interesting folks. Stay tuned. :)

Here is the mobile wallpaper for you to download:

I hope you enjoyed seeing this quick peek into Mitch's past. Please let me know what you think in the comments!

Next week we'll return with another look at one of the villains and a little lip-locking action.

More soon! :)

WONDERFUL WEDNESDAYS #16

Comments

Oh I love the sweetness of this. Like Kyle, Mitch is a hero first and foremost and I love the way this illuminates the man he's going to become. I suspect there are some very wonderful YOUNG young reader books about Mitch's baby days onward. Rudy's style is pure adorbs and the idea of a todler floating around the ceiling is just to good to miss. LOL. Thanks Alex. This is a wonderful treat. -- ChrisD.

That's really nice. I do like the scenery a lot. As far as realism (not that that's necessarily what superhero comics are about) I can't imagine that the parents would be that far away unless they had been forbidden by law enforcement to come closer during the rescue. My child falls down a well? I'd be there hanging over the side to grab him as he comes up. Regardless, very nice overall.

He's what, like a year or maybe two older than the rescuee? Looks like Mitch has had more experience than I was assuming!

it's really beautiful! and I agree that another pair of people would have madd the BG too cramped, though I look forward to meet Mitch's parents some day :) makes me curious about all the parents of our Heroes! Of course we won't see Kyle's (or only in a flashback) but until now Commander Charleyboy is all we know, I never really thought about it until now!

Oh Mitch is such a cute little hero! He can not have been old there.

I agree, Dave! I like all the little details Rudy added to this. :)

Howdy Nicholas, I only created a digital wallpaper for mobile phones because the shape of the piece (portrait orientation) doesn't lend itself for the wide rectangle of a desktop wallpaper. :)

Why is there only a link for mobile download?

I love the bulge in the eyes of the parents and the lawman. Wonderful detail.

Dave
