There's a book called Making Comics by Scott McCloud which was very inspiring for me when I was first starting out. McCloud makes the argument that the more abstract (cartoony) the character art, the more easy it is for folks to identify with that character. When it's just a stick figure, that character could very well be either you, me or the lady down the street. As the art gets more realistic (and thus specific), the less likely you are to identify with it. I find that argument compelling. And even though, in general, I prefer the highly rendered naturalistic style that Adam and Vero bring to The Young Protectors, as a reader, I also really like more cartoony stuff, even in romance and NSFW stories. My first anime crush was for Ryoga in Ranma 1/2 after all. ;) I wonder if the point McCloud makes might be part of the reason the emotions might feel bigger in these thumbs. I can certainly see what you're with that. I can feel it too. Anyway, I'm really glad you're enjoying seeing them.

2019-02-07 08:09:08 +0000 UTCSeems odd to say, but there's a quality in the thumbnails that I sometimes like better than the finished product. Given the coarser drawing and smaller scale, the emotions are comparably bigger. In any case, thanks for sharing them.
