The Young Protectors: Double Cross Chapter One—Page 3

That’s an awfully big pebble you’ve got in your shoe, lady.

Because folks have been asking for it in the comments, this is the “magic link” that will take you to the most current page of Double-Cross:

https://webcomics.yaoi911.com/?webcomic_url=webcomic5-last

(PRO TIP: Don’t create a bookmark of where that link takes you—you’ll lose the special code! Instead, you need to copy-paste the text of the link above manually into a placeholder bookmark you’ve already created. See the FAQ for more information on how to do that.)

Also because we are SO close to getting back over $6,200/month on the Patreon page again, I’m going to give one last mention to this awesome pin-up of Flyboy and Cory I commissioned from rockstar artist, Travis Moore: a full-color pin-up of Flyboy & Cory, holding hands…. a mile or two up in the air!

Like I said last week, I think it might be my favorite pin-up ever.

Here are what others are saying:

“Wow, this pin-up is so gorgeous, I think it might be my new favourite, too. What a stunning work of art. The colours in the clouds are just magical, and the sense of motion the whole piece conveys is awesome. ”
“Awww!  That’s literally what I said when I saw it.”
“This is so endearing and cute!”

And here is a cropped version of the full image:

Feel the love.

All Patrons (even brand new ones!) get to download the full version of this pin-up as a special wallpaper. If you like what you see here and want to help me keep making this comic, please join your fellow readers on Patreon and download the full version of this amazing pin-up now!

And because this comic wouldn’t be here at all without the Patreon support, it’s my great pleasure to send out a very special Patreon anniversary thank you to those who have been supporting our work consistently.

First for Patrons who have been supporting for the last 12 months as of this week (Feb 17-23):

Bob G., and Kiersten W.

(You rock, Bob & Kiersten!)

And also for Patrons who have been supporting for 24 months of this week (Feb 17-23):

Joseph D., Tom D., and Ned T.

(Two years of support! Thank you so much, Joseph, Tom and Ned!)

And finally, it’s my great pleasure to send an extra huge thank you to those Patrons who have been supporting this comic and our work from the very beginning!

Here are the Patrons who have been supporting me and this comic for 48 months (4 years!) as of this week (Feb 17-23):

Barry, BootedBear, Elliott, Goodyear, Ian, Paul (Chiron), Suz, Hannah A., Jennifer C., Matthew C., Moti L., Edwina M., Roger M., Matt N., Julie R., Boris S., and Stijn V.

(WOO HOO, y’all! Thank you so much for sticking with me so long! I’m deeply grateful to each and every one of you! Happy Anniversary!)

Thank you all so, so much for your amazing, ongoing support! It’s the consistent support that makes Patreon so helpful to creators, and is so essential to my ability to continue making this comic! You all are superheroes!

So! Looks like Kanya found a magic… paper weight? Glow stick? Pet rock? And now she wants Spooky to pay her thousands of dollars for it! Is she nutty? Or nutty like a fox? Could this really be something Spooky has been looking for? What is it anyway? And what exactly does it do?

Tune in this Saturday to find out! Hope to see you there!

A lot of those universes keep up the "Masquerade" (for those of you who just got the Phantom of the Opera song stuck in their heads, I'm sorry/you're welcome), bu having magic strive to keep itself apart from the real world. It's like if the National Science Foundation were also the Illuminati. That said, I do prefer stories where magic is treaated as a fact of life, like chemistry. In fact I'm trying to work that into my own story as well.

I shouldn't like such an obviosuly on-the-take cop as much as I do, and yet here I am. There's something unapologetic about her - she knows who she is and what she wants. It's kind of like if Catwoman were on the GCPD, but still, you know..Catwoman.

I am very much enjoying a bit of in-passing worldbuilding here: this is a world where magic demonstrably and concretely exists, and consequently even mundane people, faced with glowing rocks, think things like "oh, this is probably a magical artifact of some sort, I should call the appropriate authorities." Which sounds so obvious when put that way, but a lot of universes just fail on this... magic demonstrably and concretely exists, but somehow most people don't believe in it. And not even in the belligerent sense that flat-earthers don't believe in orbits, but in the quotidian sense that people in the real world don't believe in concrete demonstrable magic. Which is kind of like not believing in chemistry. (Which, again, some people don't, but it's different.) So, anyway, thanks for that.

Loving Kanya’s face in panel 5. Also still loving that pinup. 🥰

The last panel reminds me how much I love Spooky's hat! 🧢
