Fluke Powers Card Art

Thanks to hitting the $2500/month Milestone Goal. I've been posting up Digital Kickstarter Rewards for $5+ Patrons to enjoy. And here's your latest reward!

This is the art from Fluke’s Powers Card. Featuring linework by Fritz Casas and colors by Alex Sollazzo, it shows Fluke stopping a crime in progress at a convenience store! Sure, it’s not part of his typical Search and Rescue role with The Young Protectors, but with his luck, he probably winds up in this kind of situation with some regularity. Good thing he was in his uniform!

The challenge with Fluke is trying to find a way to visually show his luck powers. As the most physically fit member of the team, I can always show him in hand-to-hand combat, but how do you show how he’s changing luck with still picture, let alone in a single panel?

Based on my suggestions, I think Fritz came up with a good solution to this that feels dynamic and cool. I’ll be very curious to hear what y’all think! :)

Kudos...I like it alot!!!!

Thomas Polk

Agreed. (And yep I think it wasn't an easy coloring assignment, and I think Alex S. knocked it out of the park. :) )

Glad you liked it, Danish!

Alex Woolfson

True. :) (And thank you!)

Alex Woolfson

Indeed there was. It's always a bit of a brain-twister to try to figure out how to show Fluke's powers in a still image, but it's also a lot of fun. :)

Alex Woolfson

Very glad you like it, Michael! :)

What a fun scene! It's a perfect snapshot of Fluke's powers in action. Great details--things like the bottles bouncing all over, the look on the clerk's face in the background, and those perfect shadows and highlights on the floor (those must've been tough to color) bring life to the whole scene as well as the primary action.

Saw this as one of you new posters at YaoiCon. It looks REALLY good in a big print too :)

Great job showing the combination of Fluke's powers and athleticism! The clerk doesn't look like he's having much fun (not that I blame him). Fluke, on the other hand, looks like he's having a great time! I almost feel sorry for the bad guys--they probably will be trying to figure out how it could have gone so wrong, so quickly, for ages. Lucky for them they'll probably have plenty of time to think about it in jail.

I love the intricacy of this piece. At first glance it's just a super cool action shot, but after looking a little longer I could make out the chain reaction of how it all happened. There was obviously a lot of thought put into this bad-assery

Oh COOL Fluke is just awesome :D and in the end the lucky part sure is obvious enough now xD in fact hilarious to a point how "unlucky" those guys are ^^

Nadin Brokop

Awesome! This really is a good exploration of the sorts of things a "luck" based power might be useful for. A water bottle gets thrown in the air, where it stops the hatted thug's knife and makes the other thug slip over; meanwhile, two thugs mis-aim and hit each other instead of Fluke. And in the middle of all that, Fluke shows off his natural athleticism and rippling, rock-hard thighs. Mmm.
