Do we need a forum?

Share anything you'd like (comments, links, etc.)Oh, and just a quick question here.Do you guys think we need a forum? Like an actual forum where you could create threads even without my participation and such?Or would it be too much?I mean it would not me take long to set up a decent forum through my site but I'm not sure if we need it...Just let me know what you think. And the picture on top is a place-holder. Simply because I don't like to make posts without visual content. Those are some books you will be buying (or not) in the in-game store.

Do we need a forum?

Thanks for your vote of confidence. ^_^ I understand the job because I used to do it as part of my work a few years ago, the company I worked for at the time used a forum for technical assistance (phone support was available, but only for the deluxe services, the discount plans had only the forums). That's why I don't underestimate the work that an active forum can need. As for being a moderator for a new Akabur forum, I don't know if I will have the time needed for it, but if nobody else is available, then maybe. But first we have to decide if forums are needed and what they would bring that Patreon does not already offer.

Exactly Jack Trowell! This guy understands the job of a true moderator. It's not about throwing out people that behave inappropiatly on a forum but to stop conflict/trolling to escalate in the first place. Jack how about you volunteer as a mod? You have my vote so far ;) As for the forum: It would be awesome but the patreon-notification system works like a charm, so if you have a lot of work just stick with what you have so far.

A forum might be a good idea, but for this it would need a good moderator, and by "good" I don"t mean just someone who use the banhammer at the first occasion, but someone that can deflate crisis before they reach a critical point with well placed messages. Someone who can act as a mediator, and have enough free time to read most message as they come. In other words, a forum need at lest one person to invest time and efforts to keep it a good place to visit. If you don't have the time or inclination, and don't know someone who might do it for you, then a forum is a big risk. With a very low activity, this might not represent much, but then a forum with a very low activity might not bring much.

Oh yeah. A site like PATREON must have some in-build polls by default. Someone must ask them for that.

AKAMAN

You could use http://strawpoll.me/ Every time you make a new one it gives you a unique URL you can post. Brings up an idea that Patron should implement, a poll system. :)

Vargh

Yes. I nees to overhaul my site. But first things first. "Hermione"...

AKAMAN

Yeah... Safe to say this notion was vetoed. But it was fun! We need to vote on more different things!!!! I need to create some cool my projects related polls. Anyone knows any cool poll wiglets or something...?

AKAMAN

More I go though the comments - the clearer I see that we don't need no stinking forum. And I am glad. If you guys are content - I'm content.

AKAMAN

I will re-brand my page here and my website. Create new goals and all that... But I plan to do that while you guys will be toiling to corrupt that young witch Hermione.

AKAMAN

Your vote counted.

AKAMAN

Well, Patreon seem to evolve slowly, so we will see...

AKAMAN

Well, less work for me. Good.

AKAMAN

Also true.

AKAMAN

Great! No forum then!

AKAMAN

To be honest I had similar thought but thought that maybe I am being crazy... Glad you all agree with me.

AKAMAN

Oh, dude. You will have fun with that one ;)

AKAMAN

Gotcha.

AKAMAN

We need more milestone goals, a forum could be one of them, maybe.

I think that because you are rather attentive to community members on Patreon that a proper forum would be redundant. Which is to say, it is your commitment to the people you are creating for, and your willingness to respond to questions/concerns that makes the existence of a forum kind of pointless. We're just fine with Patreon, thanks :-)

callmemusashi

We don't need no stinkin' forum! :P Seriously, though, I don't really see much use for it.

Oric13

I vote no. We are here to listen to you. Not the other horny guys.

silvarius2000

No forum please, I don't want loud mouthed extremists to control discourse.

lc

I vote no forum, it's a little much. I believe this little system of communication we have going on here on Patreon is appropriate.

Tudor G.

Like the rest said, we only need one if this place gets to much posts. Otherwise the forum would be a ghost town (ghost forum...). As it is now I think patreon is fine.

Nemesis Valentine

Patreon is fine i think. Though, if you gonna release the game and want opinions/critique about it, a Forum would probably be a better solution for that then the content-related-commenting model Patreaon has. Also i spotted pointy ears at the top right. I DESPERATLY need to know more about this. (Did i mention it features pointy ears?)

artisticMink

Patreon seems fine to me, and I think people can make posts here about anything. A forum would only be necessary if this place got a few too many posters and it became mind-boggling to navigate.

Rob

My first thought was: Yeah cool! My second thought is: Would we really need it ? From experience only a handful of people will actually be active, it also depends on how much you would be active Akabur.

Vargh

Don't know, I like how it is right now as a parton

Dorago

A forum might be a plus, then again (aside from your gallery), there's not much use for your website with the way patreon activity is taking over. Maybe you could simplify your site where it's just a forum + the gallery and maybe a front page with the banners to your patreon, HF etc. I don't see any reason for the front page feeds or live journals etc. Here's what I mean by simple/lite: http://www.faustie.com
