Favorite "Double Cross 1" Panel Winner Pin-up: Page 72, Panel 4
Added 2020-04-18 16:01:01 +0000 UTCA couple of weeks ago, I asked you to vote for your favorite panel among the winners of previous Favorite Panel polls so I could make a pin-up that takes advantage of the extra resolution Vero has been sending me for the Double Cross pages.
Y'all chose Page 72, Panel 4 as the winner with 52% of the votes! Page 71, Panel 5 came in second with 39%. And Page 70, Panel 2 came in last place with 10% each.

Thank you for your question, Charles. Happy to answer it. :) It has been both my vision and canon since the beginning that Spooky's body type is chubby. The only time when Spooky has (deliberately) been depicted as thin is towards the end of his time in Hell and just after he returned from Hell. Other than that, it has been my consistent direction and each artist's intention to draw him chubby. If you're seeing something different, then you should just chalk it up to art being, well, an art not a science, so there will be some variation based on who is drawing him on top of just plain old random variability. But that's all it is, artist variability not a choice. I've talked more than a few times in the comments and elsewhere why I've made the choice to show a variety of body types as sexy in my work. And in particular, why it was important that the sexiest character in my world (per its mainstream media) is a short, chubby, person of color. The brief version, though, is that I believe that all body types can be sexy, and I'd like our readers to believe that about themselves too. As for Teen Spooky, this is two years after his return from Hell. So, he's thicker than he was in the Spooky Bonus Comic (and his youthful scenes in Past Sins), but not as thick as in the present day, 5 years from the events of Double Cross. At this age, I suppose we'd call him "a little chubby" -- but, unlike Flyboy who has a very low body fat, Teen Spooky post-Hell is definitely. always intended to be soft. It just might be hard to tell that under his trench coat, etc. :) Hope that helps!

As I've followed Young Protectors, Spooky seems to morph from a slim feller to really kind of pudgy... and I'm not against the portrayal of less-than-perfect physiques, but seeing a younger teen Spooky here, not at all chunky, makes me wonder how you actually see our star wizard in your head... We did see him turn into a human blowfish in the battle against Kyle's nasty daddy-o... but he returned to a lean, mean, fighting machine after that. What is Spooky's body mass index set to, and will he keep changing?
