Did you hear the footsteps when the family gets home from the mom’s funeral? You hear steps running out of the house to the left of the frame while the family enters on the right through the front door. That very night, the night of that funeral, we see the very first word of ritual as Annie notices it. “SATONY.” Written on the wall at the head of Charlie’s bed. In fact, I think every word we see later is written on the wall behind the head of their beds. There are so many creepy clues in this movie. I never get tired of watching it because it always surprises me with details. That house is never empty when the family is gone. The metaphor of fate and inevitability seeps through ever cut and edit. Annie works on her “Small World” installation with incredible precision and detail. She only has the vague sense, the dread behind all appearance, that she lives in a small world, too, crafted with precision and detail. We enter that world in the beginning of the movie and at the end we see it complete. The treehouse, looking like a demonic manger scene, is suspended in the void. This family was always suspended in the void. It did not matter what they did. The intergenerational power of that coven is terrifying, more terrifying than Paimon. In fact, Paimon himself is trapped as much as Charlie, Peter, Annie, everyone. Never underestimate the psychic power of individuals bound to each other for a single purpose. So I’ve read. “I’ve looked at life from both sides now / From win and lose / And still somehow / It’s life’s illusions I recall / I really don’t know life at all / It’s life’s illusions that I recall / I really don’t know life / I really don’t know life at all”

I won't do that again, because I caught myself watching only the movie and not your reaction, which is why I'm watching in the first place. Also, who TF recommended this movie? I almost turned it off because it was too depressing. Turns out, my instinct here was right. I SHOULD'VE turned it off. My reaction to this movie was a lot like yours: stunned silence and disbelief. I like to see you having fun with these movies, not be traumatized by them. How do you have fun with THAT ? Granted, after the seance and shit started, the mood kind of lightened a bit, cuz everything after that was a bit far fetched (like most horror movies ARE). But up until Charlie was decapitated and the subsequent reactions by the family, there was nothing to make fun of. It was just.....depressing. You need a FUN horror movie and "An American Werewolf in London" is the one to do it. It's got gore, jump scares, dream sequences, humor, love story, sex scene (not too graphic) and the best werewolf transformation scene ever in any werewolf movie. It's the most fun you'll ever have being scared. Oh yeah, and the ending is.......WTF? Btw, wanting to turn the movie off had nothing to do with you. Your reaction was great (as usual). It was the movie ITSELF that I had an issue with. Your reactions are always great.

2022-12-06 22:53:11 +0000 UTCAww, so many reactors miss Annie sitting up in the corner as the kid is getting out of bed. They only see her after the scene shifts and she scurries away. Color correction and monitor calibration for the win. Actually, she saw the grandma in the earlier shot and most people that miss Annie in the dark corner usually also miss grandma. "We'll see what we're supposed to see when we're supposed to see it..." if your contrast allows it. :) Edit : I checked the YouTube edit and starting at 30:28 you even have a series of shots where your embedded video is too dark to see Annie up in the corner. I wonder if things like that have a subliminal effect that compounds the tension?
