1982 I do believe. 1986 would be the sequel. Also this was just rated PG (PG13 had not been created as of yet)

You are, after all, quite a bit younger than me. Back in the day, in the wee hours of the morning, the local TV channels would actually stop broadcasting content. This was before the 24 hour news cycle and cable TV in general. Right before they went off the air, the major stations in the states (ABC,NBC,CBS) would play the national anthem. If you heard that as a kid, you knew that you were up waaay past your bedtime. In the NY metropolitan area, where I grew up, after the anthem, we didn’t get static like they show in Poltergeist. Instead we saw the test image, which was a set of rainbow colored bars that were supposedly useful for calibrating your set and the most annoying tone ever created would beeeeeeeep along with it. I guess in some areas or channels some people got pure static.
