I became a patron this month JUST so I could say my piece here haha. Even though I admit it, I like the 1988 version better (I didn't know there was a 2001 version), I would strongly recommend starting with the 1958 version! It's a classic in it's own right and it's fun! I agree with what a lot of people are saying. It's not as scary. And maybe in the end that's the point of your channel. But speaking as someone who got into horror by starting with the REAL classics (The Silent era and classic Universal mosnters, etc). I feel like true classic horror doesn't get enough love in the community. It's true that these movies aren't "Scary" but they are good!! And they are imo essential for understanding the history of the genre! So Yes I would like to say, go for the 1958 version! And while your at it, check out the 58 version of The Fly or the 1951 version of The Thing! Check out Dracula and Frankenstein, etc! I understand you have to feed the algorithm but maybe once in a while you could do these real retro horror movies just for fun!! And to give yourself a break from the modern day scares! Anyway, I said my piece, good luck and keep having fun doing what you do!!
