Developmental Material: Feudal structure of Myszno

I'm working on some of the background structure/worldbuilding of Archemi - specifically, the feudal system of Vlachia. Thought this might be interesting to those of you who love the kingdom building and worldbuilding aspects of LitRPG:

"Hector's full title is: Duke Dragozin Hector, Voivode of Myszno, Primor of Racsa and Prince of Karhad; Demon Slayer, bonded of Karalti, the Black Opal Queen of the Solonkratsu."

"Each county in Myszno except Racsa has four Manor Districts, each of which is maintained by a Baron who is who is able to issue fiefs within their domain. These Barons are the four Officers of the County, and serve as counsel to the County lord, who is known as the Primor.

Racsa is the only exception: it has five districts, as the District of Karhad is under the sole authority of the Voivode.

* Baron Marten and his entire house was destroyed. The Captain of the guard, Ur Lang Gertzan, third lieutenant to the Castellan of House Marten, has come in his lord's stead.

* Baron Hussar and his wife and sons are dead. His only living child, 15-year old Kitti Hussar, has come in his stead to claim her father's lands.

* Starosta Antal Vindenz is the elder of Vyeshniki, a major freehold in Vas.

* After the sacking of Karhad, a charismatic cattle merchant, Alan Bubek, has assumed leadership of the refugees and has protected and fed people in his warehouses and with his own grain and fodder. He is marching to Kalla Sahasi with his supporters to demand action from the Voivode. Hector's mutated/vampiric appearance is very, very distressing to common people."

"The five Districts of Racsa are: Karhad (central), Vas (south), Tolna (east), Heves (west), and Norgrad (north)."

After sorting out the initial chaos, Hector gets seven quests dumped on him:

- Refugees are flooding into Norgrad, the district closest to Vastil Pass. Desperate, sick and plagued by bandits from the Endlar, Baron Kopolks has no resources to help them and is overwhelmed. The refugees are suffering from diseases, and there is rumor that the Yanik are preparing to mass and move south, as they are also in desperate straits.

- Bandits have taken over the ruins of Vyeshniki, Racsa's second-largest city and a major freehold in Heves. The Starosta of Vyeshniki and Baron Marten's only surviving representative, Ur Lang Gertzen, have come to beg Hector for military resources. The bandits are keeping the survivors out of their city and are holding the granaries hostage, and the people are starving. They need a new lord to take control of the county.

- Lady Kitti Hussar is beside herself. The 15-year old daughter of the Baron of Vas, her entire family died in the war. A veteran knight who served her father, Ur Gallo, has declared himself the new baron and has given her an ultimatum - marry him and hyphenate her surname with his to form the House of Hussar-Gallo, or he will have her killed. He has leveraged taxes on the survivors and is forcing them to work as serfs, including the free peasantry

- Tolna, the breadbasket of the southern counties of Myszno, was spared the worst of the war and is still relatively intact. However, the war depleted the manpower in Baron Zanard's district, and the crops are rotting in the fields. He is in a panic, as they have already lost twenty-five percent of the year's crop and every passing day sees more of it go to waste.

- The self-proclaimed Mayor of Karhad - standing at the head of a crowd of scared and superstitious townsfolk, belligerently demands that Hector take care of his own District first. The food in the granaries is rotting, there is no clean water, and now the sewers have stopped working.

- The runner who preceded the arrival of the mob is not from Racsa, but the neighboring southern province of Valen. Primora Patrika Kinaly, the countess of the province, wants to call an urgent Council of Peers to affirm Hector and work out a plan to salvage the province before winter arrives.

- A second messenger, who was among the mob, declares privately that Primor Rendor Elek of the neighboring eastern county of Azya wishes to meet with Hector to discuss a possible betrothal to his eldest daughter, a renowned beauty, citing that Hector's foreign status can be overlooked if he marries into an old Myszno bloodline like his own."

"There are other factions beyond the Vlachian feudal structure, who coexist alongside the streamlined feudal system:

- Freeholds are remote outposts that have grown large through specialized economic production: mines, lumber, etc. Freeholds are administered by locally elected elders, who are known as Starosta. As a democratically elected representative, the Starosta appoints sheriffs and pays taxes to the county lord, but does not owe fealty and consequently does not recieve default security from the lord. Freeholds maintain their own militias for defense. The local Baron has the right to command the Freehold miltia to serve in times of need, but as long as the Freehold pays its taxes, they are mostly left to their own devices. Freeholder elders are not allowed to issue fiefs or hold noble titles.

- The Yanik live by their traditional leadership system, which is known as Nakharar. Nakhari (warlords) are the patriarch or matriarch of a noble family that leads any given clan, with local power equivalent to that of a King or Queen. Nepotism is the norm; all positions of power within a tribe are dominated by one or two families, and the clan takes the prime family's totem as their clan totem (usually some kind of dinosaur or monster). Succession is passed within the family, and endogenous (incestuous) marriages are expected within noble lines. However, succession within these large families is not based on birth order, but on merit. Family members of both sexes compete fiercely to maintain the favor of the Nakhari and be named as successor to the clan. The general stepping stone to rule is to become one of the Nakhari's sworn officers, warleaders, or bodyguards.

The Nakhari names a gang of Yevbayer, 'brothers', who are his confidants, battle-companions, and bodyguards. Yevbayer status is considered to be the greatest honor attainable by the average Yanik warrior. He also names three officers: the Kaghak (car-GACKH), who administers to the civilian needs of the tribe and serves as chief judge; the Dziord (jzord), who is responsible for the tribe's wealth, which is counted in raid loot, dinosaurs and cattle; and the Berzhisk (BURR-jzisk), the spiritual leader of the tribe. The same basic structure of leadership is present in the Sathbari, from whom the Yanik are descended.

- The Tuun freeholders of Valen occupy the harsh high-plateau country in the far south, and are largely autonomous. They live according to their own laws, with the center of governance found in Ondor Urkhai, a mana-crystal mining town which is also the site of the local monasteries. As in Tungaant, the Tuun in Myszno are led by the Abbot of the monastery of Enzen (Veles). The abbots of Enzen, Burna and Begtse form a conclave. They report to the Khamba (Chief Abbot) of Enzen in Tempat Sonne, the capital of the Tuun in their homeland, and also pay taxes and trade with the Baroness of Valen. However, they are so remote that they maintain extensive freedoms, greater even than that of the freeholders. The Tuun technically owe fealty to the Voivode and by extension the Volod, but in practice, they are both so isolated and so necessary that as long as they tithe their taxes and keep producing mana, the government leaves them be.

The Tuun of the region know that airships cannot fly in the Ondor Plateau area. I'd tell you why, but that would be spoilers.
