Just to discuss the point about Snowden and Russia, I'm not sure he planned to stay in Russia, but ended up being stuck there. I'm pretty sure keeping him in Russia helped peddle the narrative that he's a commie and anti-america, instead of a guy who bravely spoke up when he saw something wrong happening...
