AA Cover Art Discussion and Poll
Added 2025-05-21 14:58:43 +0000 UTCHey everyone! I'm going to launch AA on Royal Road pretty soon - 2 or 3 weeks. I've been using Midjourney to make a temporary book cover, but I commissioned a human-made one because I like supporting humans. The problem is, I'm not sure I like the new art better. In fact, the people I've asked say the Midjourney one is better. Let's see what you all think. Additionally, if you don't like either option, please share your ideas for a cover you would prefer. I might be commissioning a new one.
Option A, Midjourney:

Option B, human artist:

humans can be harder to prompt compared to AI - maybe try a different prompt

I think a cover with Andy prominent is good but I'd like to see some of the other characters like Lucy. This feels like a kingdom building apocalypse story so far, and Andy is leading a community. I think a leader-y theme with Andy and his spear in a more conquering cover pose

And I'm already in talks with another artist to make another one. So yeah, when it comes to artistic things, I try to support real humans.

2025-05-21 22:48:00 +0000 UTCI haven't started the series yet (I like to kick off stuff I'm going to be reading serialized with a bit more of a binge) so feel free to take my opinion with a grain of salt, but honestly neither cover really grabs me. It's likely I'll jump into it eventually because I've been a fan of everything else I've read of yours, but neither of those covers are moving it up my queue. I am firmly anti-AI slop though. At present I'm mostly here for Victor and Vainglory right now. I really really don't want this to come across as some sort of self-righteous rant or threat to do what I want or I boycott, but I've got a long to be read list and ultimately using AI over real artists for your books probably does play at least some factor in whether I take a leap into another series or just let the membership lapse once the two series I'm currently invested in run their course.
