Protecting Your Identity
Added 2020-03-29 22:02:31 +0000 UTCWith so much public information being available at the touch of a finger on social media, learning how to protect your identity is IMPORTANT when entering sex work. This not only protects you safely, but also protects your livelihood, career, and personal interests from those you want to keep it from.
Whether you are a sex worker, sugar baby, or entering the BDSM industry in the lifestyle sector, you’ll want to keep these steps in mind to protect yourself.
Always go by an alias that’s not close to your real name
This alias can be used when signing up for social media, making accounts on pay sites, and when interacting with potential clients.
Disconnect contacts from syncing with social media
Usually when you first sign up on any social media, “connecting contacts” is an option. This allows people in your phone to automatically be able to find you on social media. Be sure to deny this option in the settings of the social media you are signing up for.
Create a new email address
Before starting any account on social media, create a new email address. It is highly recommended to use Proton Mail. You can also use this to connect with potential clients, sugar daddies, play partners, etc
Create a fake phone number
This should go without saying! Never give out your real number online. Apps like Text Free, Google Voice or Discord are great alternatives to connect with people.
Keep your photos edited for privacy
For those who aren’t comfortable with showing your face on social media, use blurring apps to blur out your face or any other self identifying features on your body (tattoos, scars, birth marks, etc)

I would say the latter

2025-01-07 13:37:10 +0000 UTCMy phone carrier offers a service to add a second number to my phone, would this be fine to use or would one of the apps be more secure since it't not tied to my personal name?

2024-11-22 12:21:16 +0000 UTCI have just started going thru the courses, and i am curious - I care about my face not being shown but my tattoos are recognizable…. Would you suggest going with blurring out my identity all together of that is bothersome to me.

2023-10-10 21:50:51 +0000 UTCFor someone who may not want to show their face, does it have to be blurred, could it be a mask? Is that at all common?

2023-05-03 04:44:02 +0000 UTCyou pretty much can't reverse what's already out there especially if a majority already know your real name - you can secure it for your online brand, in person may be more difficult for you now.

2022-08-11 14:38:50 +0000 UTCHello! I entered the kink world using my real name. Many people in the scene already know my name, and would likely be at parties I go to, including some potential subs. None of them know my real email, phone number, etc. Is this enough to be secure? If not, how would I create the separation needed from my real identity when so many people already know it?

2022-08-08 02:20:30 +0000 UTCPeace Mistress Marley✨ My model name has foundation already and I have elements and information about kink and Fetish connected to it. I also have a burlesque alias that I decided to use for this class and maybe sex work in the future. Do you think it’s important to chose one of these? Do you think it matters less if I’ve already connected my name to the BDSM world? Or should I still create the separation?

2021-04-06 20:10:57 +0000 UTCShould you do the same for sugaring on websites? So blur your face and only do full-figure photos?

2020-05-25 17:40:36 +0000 UTCI've already been using my real name on instagram before I considered doing sex work. I've now built up my following. Is it too late to change to an alias?
