IMPACT PLAY: HOW TO

For those of us wanting to dive into doing in-person sessions within our Domme work, Impact Play can be a big part of most sessions, as a large majority of subs will request it. The thought of it for a beginner can be intimidating, but once you learn the in's and outs and get a little practice, it'll be an exciting element to bring to future sessions.

1. Know what type of impact tools you want to use

There are different types of impact toys and instruments: paddles, floggers, whips, crops, canes are the popular tools and toys, but you can also use household items such as books and brushes. Your hand works well too! Anything that can give a successful impact and is safe for yourself and your sub is ideal.

You should make sure that with whichever tool you choose to use, you are comfortable with it. How does it feel in your hand? Do you feel confident when swinging it? If you don't feel a connection to the tool, don't use it

2. Practice makes perfect

Before administering impact play in a real session, find a friend, partner, or sub that you can practice on. You never want to go into a session with no real practice in impact; it can be dangerous for you and your sub. During practice, get used to the feelings you have while doing impact play. Do you feel like you're holding back? Do you feel powerful? Are there emotions that come with each hit? These are all important things to ask yourself

3. Be aware of your sub during session

For safety purposes, be sure that you know what your sub can tolerate and what they can't. Always ask them what their pain levels are, if they have any previous injuries, and if they have any past trauma in reference to impact play. NEVER HIT THE RIBCAGE OR KIDNEYS DURING IMPACT PLAY. Fattier areas such as the buttocks, palms, thighs, and some parts of the upper back are fine depending on the tool. This also calls for a lot of hand-eye coordination to make sure you are not missing spots when doing impact play.

Also, be sure that your sub has consented to the toy you want to use. Also be sure to discuss if your sub is into having marks and bruises.

4. Always keep clean tools

This is self explanatory. Always wipe down each tool for each client and invest in a bag to store your tools when not using.

5. Don't drink during session

Consent is better communicated when both parties are sober. Things also may feel differently to the sub if they are under the influence and can potentially be dangerous.
