CREATING A PERSONAL WEBSITE FOR YOUR BRAND

Lately on social media, we have been seeing more and more platforms delete SWer and sex-posi creator accounts left and right, with no explanation or no interest in returning your account. As someone who has first hand experience in losing their IG account 6 times in less than 3 months, the importance of building my own website held high priority. 

Personal websites are beneficial because no matter what may happen to your social media, you can always fall back on a personal website to house your content for your fans and people that want to work with you. You also have more control with a personal website and can edit it to your liking on your terms. Here are some steps to creating your own website.

1. Find a platform

The platform that I use for my personal website (servemistressmarley.com) is Wix. Wix allows you to use their templates or custom made templates for your website. You can add widgets that direct people on your site straight to your social media. You can also create subscriptions, events, courses, and more.

2. Decided what you want to display

Do you want a website that's more of an "about me" for future creators wanting to work with you, or do you want a website for your clients to learn more about your work and how to book you? Be prepared to make your website content heavy with photos and videos as a blank canvas is not ideal.

3. Purchase a domain

A domain is good so that you can have ownership to your website and a custom URL that is easy for people to access. Most websites will allow you to purchase a domain for as low as $10 a month. You can also have a free website, but you'll have access to less features this way.

4. Be careful on wording

Although you can put your own content on your website, be mindful of what you are selling as these platforms still aren't fully SW friendly. If you are going to be selling content, be sure to take payment through offline methods such as Cash App, Venmo, etc.

5. If you don't want to make your own site, reach out to a creator

There are a lot of creators that will work with SWers for a discount. My website was created by 'techsubboy' on twitter who was offering a $50 deal.
