Types of Submissives/Relationships

A Domme/sub relationship is a consensual exchange of power. The role of each dynamic is different, but it is always a role that is consensual and can be negotiated upon. The Domme in this case holds the power and control of the sub. The sub, or submissive, relinquishes, or releases their power for the Domme to control. The sub is ultimately trusting the Domme with this power.

Master and servant - In a Master and servant relationship, the servant is at the beck and call of the Master, often tasks that help the Master’s day run smoother. This could include the servant preparing meals, polishing boots and clothing, or running the Master’s bath water. A lot of these services are not sexual in nature.

Chastity Keyholders - A chastity keyholder is in charge of holding a sub’s key who is locked in chastity. A chastity device is in the form of a cage and prevents the sub from having any sexual access to their genitals. The keyholder and the sub will always discuss how long the sub is to be locked in chastity, along with guidelines on punishments if the sub is to break out of chastity earlier than discussed. Keyholding can be done virtually and in person.

24/7 Relationship - This dynamic is often engaged by lifestyle Dommes. This includes around the clock servitude from the submissive, sometimes with the Domme caging a sub consensually in their home to have full control.

Female-Led Relationship (FLR) - An ongoing BDSM relationship between a dominant woman and a submissive man. The femme of the relationship will control everything about the submissive - from finances to day to day social interactions.

Service Submissives - Service submissives are not to be confused with a Master and servant relationship as explained above. Service submissives are assigned certain tasks – usually once or multiple times. These tasks provide a service: errand running, personal driver, house cleaner, building things for the Domme, etc.

Content Creation/Filming Submissives - There are some subs who are fine with being recorded during scenes. These subs are good for Dommes who are looking to build their online content presence even more to bring in extra income. Always make sure to get a sub’s consent before recording them.

Be sure that you’re selecting the D/s relationship that works best for you. Deciding this comes with having transparent conversations with the potential sub and discussing boundaries. You do not have to fall under every category, but you will definitely find yourself involved in at least one of these throughout your journey. Always remember to do your research and put your safety first.

Deciding how you also want to nurture these relationships is key. Do you want to be involved with a sub around the clock, or do you want to set boundaries on when you communicate? Also, never take on more than you can handle.
