Are you a PMG patron that lives near Baltimore?

On the off chance that you are, I'm going to be at the Enoch Pratt Free Library on the 7th June interviewing Jake Solomon (of XCOM and Midnight Suns fame) about what it's like trying to launch a new video games studio amidst... all of this.

If you've been following my work since Eurogamer, you may already know that I'm a huge XCOM-head and have had a lot of fun interviewing Jake in the past.

Having left Firaxis Games in 2023 he's since gone on to start Midsummer Studios, which is working on a yet-to-be-revealed life sim game and finds itself, like so many game companies, in an industry that's suddenly gotten much more nervous about funding new and unproven projects.

We're going to be talking about the challenges he's facing and what advice he'd have to offer to other game devs facing similar pressures. Plus, there's going to be a bunch of indie devs from the local area exhibiting their games at the library throughout the day as well.

If you can make it, the tickets are free and you can register for one right here.

And if you can't, you might like to know that I'm also using this trip to benefit some other PMG reporting as well. As the Enoch Pratt Free Library has very kindly paid for my travel to this event, I'm going to use this trip as a good excuse to also pop over to Irvine, California for a couple of days and check in on the WoWGG union we're following.

I'm just trying to figure that out with the organizers atm, but I'm hoping I can share something here at least
