I believe I heard once that there was a fire at Hengdian (the Chinese correlate of Hollywood where all the lavish sets are created) resulting in the death of 2 of the crew members. You see a lot of the characters holding fans to avoid the makeup from being ruined. The director Chen Jialin is very supportive of the actors. I’m glad the production team picked up the rights to MDZS to bring the story to life. I think where the Untamed added to this universe is the added depth and personality to the characters and the clearing up of the sometimes confusing timeline from the book/animation. The drama cast actors who were lesser known at the time because there was a question whether this drama would even be able to broadcast due to censorship and restrictions in China. However, the production team struck gold with the cast. While both leads went on to be very successful, Xiao Zhan (sorry my bias as Wei Wuxian is such a touching character for me) has been known as the God of Wealth, bringing unbelievable benefits to those projects he joins, even bringing companies back from the brink of bankruptcy. I think the staff and crew knew that if broadcasted, the Untamed would be popular. They just didn’t expect it to be THIS popular.
