Double Theo James plus blood and gore galore are the reason for the season as we settle in for yet another Stephen King adaption that left us gagging for more!

I also thought the monkey would wind up in the Warren museum at the end, thinking we were doing a Conjuring spinoff of the items from their museum. That monkey was different, though.

The over the top bullying, the dark humor from Tatiana, it all feels like very over the top intentionally for laughs. Osgood said that if he made the movie 20 years ago, it would’ve been really depressing, but now it’s his way of laughing at the nature of it all. Reading about Osgood, it became apparent that a lot of this was cathartic for him after what happened to his parents. Anthony Perkins died of AIDS and his mom died on 9/11. Even the crazy line in this where the brother even says it’s been 9 years since they’ve talked and 11 since they’ve seen each other. The first half of the movie really works for me because it doesn’t tonally feel at odds, but the back half feels so all over the place and kind of monotonous. Will always be curious in whatever Osgood decides to make.

Once I realized what it was going to be tonally, I just kind of let it happen and enjoyed it for what it was. Was it great? No. Did it solidify for me that Oz Perkins has a lot of potential as a filmmaker? Yes. None of his films have hit at an A level yet (at least for me), but I can feel some truly incredible films coming from him in the future if he keeps this up. A fun rewatch with you guys. 😃

2025-03-26 22:43:13 +0000 UTChave to say, I enjoyed this far more the second time around--not just because of you two, but that certainly helped. knowing what to expect (the unserious plot and wackiness of it all) allowed me to focus more on the couple of beautiful moments in this film and the unnecessarily good performances: Tatiana Maslany, who I didn't know before this, was soo good as the mom, and Christian Convery as the young brothers and Theo as the present brothers were both hilarious
