THE LAST OF US (2x6) *REACTION* FIRST TIME WATCHING! "THE PRICE"

THE LAST OF US just will not let up with the gut punches. In the Season 2 penultimate episode we're given such bittersweet moments, a bit of perspective and perhaps a little closure with Joel Miller- the man who paid the price 😭

Knowing she lost him the next day after that conversation on the porch? Broke my heart all over again. This episode was like pulling the wound open again at seeing Joel again but also a healing balm at seeing Joel again. I just missed him. After he died, and I know it’s how the games are, but nothing felt right. The whole dynamic was Joel and Ellie and then everything shifted and I was still stuck back there. So I stopped watching the episodes by myself and watched them with you two my loves. Much easier in solidarity. I ADORE Pedro, won’t lie (and yes, I was obsessed with every outfit change and photo op pose at Cannes, hello the black muscle tank and pants 😮‍💨😮‍💨🥵🥵) but the character of Joel I loved. And I have so many thoughts and opinions on the whole trajectory of the storyline, but for me, his death was just too big of a loss.

Ellie and Joel's LAST conversation ending with Ellie saying that she'd like to try to begin the process of forgiving Joel only to lose him the next day? I shed a tear. Plus, now that she's lost Joel she has a better understanding of where his headspace was when he killed everyone to save her (despite it going against the greater good). Ellie knows what Joel did to Abby's father and the fireflies, but her love for him transcends his behavior which leads to her repeating the same recklessly violent behavior that Joel displayed towards the fireflies.

I actually heard that there's a new show called Earth Abides based on the book that Catherine O'Hara is reading! This episode hurt my heart but at the same time it felt oh so good to have Joel back. I miss him so much its ridiculous!

Wes’ soundless screams have never been so relatable…if you love someone you can always see their face, which is why I have an infinite photo album of Joel stored in my memory 😭

Agree!! Joel was in the wrong a LOT, and that doesn’t mean I don’t love him. He’s a pretty fucked up guy, understandably so given his trauma. But it doesn’t justify him constantly taking away other people’s decisions out of a warped protector instinct. He doesn’t trust the people he loves to make decisions for themselves because he thinks he knows best and is the only one who can protect them. If I were Ellie, I would have a hard time trusting him too. Still love you Daddy Joel, you were just a complex man. RIP 🥲😭

16:58 (“she probably hasn’t seen Jurassic Park”): Fun fact!! In-game dialogue confirms that Ellie has seen Jurassic Park! They couldn’t say it by name cuz of copyright, but they make some kind of not so sly reference to it.

This was another rare ep that made some major deviations from the source material, but I think it was for the better! (at least, for the television format) This is absolutely the best ep of the season so far in my opinion. So glad that this is the ep Neil (the game co-creator) directed. I see Emmys!!!

To me, Eugene was not changing. He was scared. He was tired. He was dying. Utimately though, it doesn't matter bc Joel has already betrayed Ellie's trust. The 3rd time was watching him lie righ to Gail's face. If Joel hadn't broken Ellie's trust so many times, she might understand the complexities of a white lie. Ellie has pointed out on a few occasions that rules around camp get bent and broken on the regular. Joel could have had Eugene talk to Gail on the radio. He could have had Gail meet them out there. Joel had choices. When it comes to protecting Ellie, he's extreme. This is why Ellie wants him to stop protecting her. Joel is taking choice away from too many people in his decision making. His emotions are still in SLC, annhilating everyone to protect Ellie. He has PTSD. I'm glad that Ellie and Joel had that talk on the porch. It looked like a start. I'm with Ellie and Gail on this one.

I think Ellie saw Fireflies when she looked away and Joel asked if she was ok.

Oh Wes, when you said you were emotionally ready, I said out loud, oh no, you're really not honey.....I hope both your childhoods were full of love & peace. Some of us had abusive dads like Joel & Tommy. Some of us make it out better than others 😞😔 What a beautiful, heartfelt gift, making a guitar 🎸 ♥️ So many tears, so much more understanding. Apparently, I was told, the game is just like it, except the Eugene part & Joel's flashback to childhood. The porch scene really hurt....💔💔

and lie to this poor woman's face and expect me to be an accomplice to something that could have been resolved easily... there are limits to how many traumas a person can deal with at once lol

Nah, I completely understand Ellie. Ellie's main problem with Joel is she does not trust him and he keeps lying to her, especially about Salt Lake City which is why him breaking their promise again there broke her. She can't trust him. Also again, he didn't trust her that Gail husband had time when it seemed like she had knowledge about it. They already said they have protocols of letting bitten say goodbye but he didn't want him around Ellie which is why Ellie got mad again at the party because he tried to "protect" her again and again for taking her out off patrol. He keep making decisions for her like when he saved her at the hospital. Your dismisal of someone's humanity after they got bit is kinda depressing to me but I still love ya.
