GAME OF THRONES *REACTION* FIRST TIME WATCHING! (8x5)

I’ll never understand why Dany didn’t just go straight for Cersei and burn her and the Red Keep down. She didn’t even check to make sure that Cersei died! Why would she kill all of those innocent people and not give a fuck about the one person that wronged her the most? Also, The Hound dying in the fire is so symbolic. He’s been scared of fire his whole life because of what his brother did to his face. Wes was right, it was a poetic way for him and his brother to die together.

This is where it took a massive, “wait, WHAT?!” turn for me. Dany literally going against everything she had stood for up until this point, by killing everyone. She could have just flown directly to Cersei and flash fried the hag, instead of KILLING EVERYONE. Dany literally became her father, The Mad King.

Chrissy

i got 3 heart rate notifications during this episode

Cyber

Like they could have like had them surrender and then have them cut her head off right then and have them snap that would have at least made more sense

Hanna

Grey Worm lost Missandei as did Daenarys so I don't blame them for going full out.

Josh

I was just...so mad at Jaime, as a character. The fact he didn't have to do any of that. The fact he didn't have to go back to her. I just. It makes me so angry and devastated. I know he hasn't been the best character but I think he had a good arc, and I don't think he needed to go out that way.

Rachel

He calls her "my queen" all the time because the writers gave up on the last three episodes of this season. They were over it. And it shows.

Megan Koler

Again, D&D made Dany the villain. They ruined her. But like Jon said, she'll always be my Queen 👑🐉 It was all so sad tho....😥 Some people thought that the white horse was Bran, going to take her out.

Gloria Hernon

I was so sad for Conleth. And his glorious hair

One of the main SHOW themes I love is as Arya worships the God of Death she always(mostly) has a white or grey/white horse to ride on like one of the Apocalypse's 4 horseRiders as DEATH RIDES a PALE HORSE.

Nikolaj/ Nicki is why I believe in Jaime/Cersei as a tragic relationship lovers rooted in their inseparable identity twinship since womb babies raised mental emotional?physical abused by a fkd up Dad tho rich isolated Flowers in the Attic(wiki) fictional DOOMED TRAGIC LOVERS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDou03Xd78c Game of Thrones | Jaime & Cersei S1-8 | GreatGatsby- ? I just still don't get it it makes no senseeeee..like yeah I see the villain arc for Dany, and I know a lot of people say oh we should have seen it coming. But I just can't see how we're supposed to get in the moment when the bells ring and she just has a moment of like angry huffing that we're supposed to understand her motive for burning everything down despite the fact they surrendered. And then Greyworm throwing the spear, like what are we saying? Are we just saying that these people have lost it because of grief or...? It's just very confusing to me...sigh. Watching this with you guys has made me think about how we watch media though, like you can think about the writers and how the decisions the characters make reflect how they saw the story going. But then there's another way to look at it where you just analyze the characters motivations as characters divorced from the writing/authors. And obviously we all do a mixture, but I'm just so fascinated by the way that we can all watch the same thing and have wildly varying takes. I love it even though I really don't love this episode lol

This is the most random comment but check out glass straws for when you're home! They're very fun and are a good alternative to paper/plastic..I've found really cute ones too

Dany has been a villain to me since season 7 for sure, with slightly villainous moments in earlier seasons (killing that boy for killing sons of the harpy without a trial, taking over cities being like “my city now because I say”, killing all the noble masters in Meereen even though some of them were good). They have been ramping her up as a villain for a while. People should have seen this coming from a while back with all other context clues like “most Targaryens end up being crazy”, Dany saying “I will burn your city to the ground first” to those leaders at Qath or “A Targaryen alone in the world is a terrible thing because it will basically drive them to madness”. But idk, maybe it’s on the writers to have written it in a better way so more audience could have started to think of her as a villain more earlier on. Anyways, that’s my thoughts on it all!!! Arya being the one to randomly kill the night king however is something i just don’t get and don’t like about the whole story.

Mads

Right! When Che said "they started all this" Like for real. Jamie killed Dany's father and brother who was also Jon's father, killed Jon Aryn which brought Ned Stark to Kings Landing, then killed Robert Baratheon. They deserved much worse than they got.

K

I think Jaime is the valonqar. He is, technically, younger than Cersei, as she was born first.

It's written so badly because the producers wanted to rush and wrap it up because they made a deal with Disney to take over Star Wars. HBO should've said "You can go but you're not gonna ruin our show to do it". Then the reception to season was so bad that Disney dropped their deal so they rushed and ruined the show for nothing.

K

So much about this is out of character. Dany killing thousands of innocent people. Jon standing by while Grey Worm kills innocent people. Arya walking away from killing Cersi. And in the books the prophecy is that Tyrion kills Ceris not that she and Jamie die together under a pile of bricks

K

WITCHES BREW? i looked up the flavor omg- sold!

got a fat bowl😉 & fat bowl of chipotle & im about to finish this thing with yall--this is the life! thank yall so much💕

The whole show tries to tell you it’s never about „earning“ the throne please y’all be so for real 😭 Power is not something that is earned. It’s something that’s given to the most capable ruler. You are either fit for it or not. Jon was chosen as a leader all his life because he’s a natural one. Dany had followers because she was beautiful, had 3 dragons and entitlement.

june

How badly was this last season written? Danearys took Kings Landing with one dragon and half the army she arrived in Westeros with. Had she ignored Tyrion's advice she would have been queen at the wnd of season 7 and still had all 3 dragons.

K

The character assassination of Danaerys is unforgivable. For 2 episodes Tyrion and Mary's talked about Dany and Jon marrying yet talked to Dany and Jon about. That would have United the throne and the North behind Dany and they both would have done it.

K

Also, favorite meme about this episode: Everyone: 🗡️🐉🔥🫨😱🏃🏻‍♀️☠️ Cersei: 👁️ 🍷 👁️ What pissed many us off was not that Dany snapped and burned down the city, bc there was some verbal foreshadowing of that since season 2. BUT they only spent 1.25 episodes of her transitioning from bleeding heart savior that was willing to put aside her dreams to save the health, freedom, and justice of the common people —> becoming mad and massacring a city of innocent people. It was just illogical, disrespectful, and insulting to the character, and audience that spent nearly a decade w her. They needed at least one *full* season dor that descent.

Libs

The way they wrote this so that they all use Dany until the end to discard her for a man is trash imo. If yall didnt catch it, Varys was trying to kill her by poisoning her food thats why he needed to die. Whether yall are on jons side or not, Dany did earn the throne not him. She lost everything and everyone else left unscathed. Also, Tyrion is the worst hand in existence 😭 Too bad jon and arya didnt get burned 🙃 Greyworm was the only real and loyal person in this whole show next to missandei!

Mia Hernandez

not ya’ll predicting cersei’s falling rock death lmao

Omg, yes! That's one of my favorite energy drinks!! Also, you both are the spoonful of sugar that helps this fucked up show go down! I LOVE watching with y'all!! I'm off for the next 3 days and as soon as I finish these last two episodes, I'm gonna start over and binge the entire series in 3 days!!

A reminder: Varys wasnt JUST doing his whispering. He was actively trying to poison Dany. The whole 'everytime a Targaryen is born, the gods flip a coin' is a throw away line said by anti targ maesters that has decimated the fandom. There have been very few cases of targ madness, and all of which arent just random events. Aerys wasnt born mad, he was tortured for a year before even an inkling of madness showed in him. Half of the targs in 'the madness list' are just cruel, not mad. The others were a religious zealot, a guy who we know very little about who was hidden away from people, and another who was actually pretty mad, and Aerys, who became mad after Duskendale . Its a poor justification for people to discount Dany and to argue against her, when she is objectively the person in the story who has done the most to create a better world. Also, if the targ madness shit was real, then Jon would also be susceptible. Maybe more so, considering all of the recorded 'mad targs' were men. Also also, im not actually a Targaryen defender. Im a DAENERYS defender. She is the antithesis of Targaryens, who werent mad by design, but they were oftentimes cruel and power hungry. Daenerys is hated among 'snow-bros' for doing the things that historically male protagonists do. This has always been a thing. I entered the fandom in 2004, and i have seen vitriol from 'snow bros' since then, because Dany is actively fulfilling prophecies that they believe Jon is entitled to. They hate that Dany is powerful and has her own things. She isnt the typical male fantasy power character, she's feminine and clever and kind and magical and beautiful, and the most powerful person in the story. You can see this when people 'give' Jon her dragon, or decide her worth is only based on providing a child to Jon (book theories ofc) or that her entire journey is leading to her being stabbed and killed so Jon can form a sword from her love for him. The showrunners literally, with intention, took decisions that she makes in the books and give them to her male advisors. They made Jorah a decent man who loved her, not a frightening, abusive predator who preyed on her and abused her. They instructed Emilia to act 'cold', where Daenerys is meant to be warm and good rumored. Ill defend Dany forever. She is my favorite character of all time. Please read the books. You think she is great in earlier seasons of the show? You'll be so impressed with her in the books, as well as many other characters.

“It would be so funny if they all wanna kill her and it’s just a falling piece of rock” .. well 😭

Kaitie Michelle

I also find it hard to buy Jon and Danys love in the show. I think that isnt to do with the characters though, they're literally (in the books) destined for one another. I think its more a lack of chemistry between the actors. That.... and ofc the piss poor writing.

creeper doodle

I forgot how intense this episode was and also I gotta say my views have changed while rewatching with yall❤️🤗❤️🎃❤️🤗❤️

And thus arrives one of the most POLARIZING moments in Game of Thrones history LOL. I always feel two ways about this moment. 1: I completely empathize and somewhat side with Dany in this situation. She's lost two of her dragons, Jorah, AND Missandei all back to back. All who have been the closest to her and mean the world to her. 2 of which she lost at the hands of this woman who now is all of a sudden like "Jk i surrender. Please just arrest me". Fuck that hahaha I wanna burn this place to the ground!! 2: I think they tried to go the Mad King/Queen route with her but it just isn't executed successfully. They needed another season in my opinion. Because audiences, myself included, were not going to turn against Dany for this. We needed to see MULTIPLE episodes of Dany full on losing her mind and doing terrible things. To go from just this moment to the finale I was like "Yes, and?? She should do it again!" hahah
